I was reading a couple of the arguments SDA's have for the IJ and had these thoughts. The Jews still celebrate Hanukkah (The Feast of Dedication) as a fulfillment of the prophecy of Daniel 8:14, which is the cornerstone text of the IJ. Putting aside all of the arguments about who the little horn is etc., the timeline fits perfectly. Also, all practicing Jewish children hear the story of the restoration from the time they are small. Since John mentions the Feast of Dedication in John 10, it is safe to assume that Jesus and the Disciples as well as Paul were all very aware of the story and its' fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy. Why would they not say something, if the total misunderstanding or reinterpretation of that text was the key to our salvation? Why would Jesus say in Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Why did He not warn us that there would be another gospel that would come out of that prophecy which would be necessary to our salvation? EGW says that those Christians that have accepted the first gospel spoken of by Jesus in Matt. 24 but are unaware of the shift by Jesus into the Most Holy place could not be benefited by His ministry and were given over to Satan. They offer up useless prayers. why did Jesus not warn us that just the gospel would not be enough? Why would He not tell us that simply by believing in Him we really could not be saved but must go on a treasure hunt of various obscure texts to come up with the REAL gospel? | ||

Jesus told us what is important. That is how I see it. If it had been important, He would have said so in the Bible. EGW was not told anything by God. It was a different spirit that told her. Diana L | ||

I never knew an sda who had any idea what the "feast of dedication" even was. =) I never did till I joined a different cult! lol. Very good point to bring up to them.. | ||

The language of Dan. 8 is clearly not Day of Atonement language. This is beyond the tsadaq/taher distinction. The temple is being "made right" (tsadaq), rather than cleansed in a Day of Atonement ritual (taher), because it had been defiled by the Little Horn. To read a Day of Atonement reference into Dan 8:14 is to say the Priest was to perform a Levitical ritual in a Temple that was ritually unclean! The Temple word first have to be made ritually clean, before the Day of Atonement ritual could be held there. Moreover, the focus of Dan. 8 is the suspension of the daily sacrifices, not, as SDAs teach, that the daily sacrifices were in place, causing the blood-guilt of Christians to accumulate on the veil between the HP and MHP. | ||
