This morning I was studying the last of Hebrews about Jesus being a Good Shepherd. In Isaiah 40:11 it tells me that the shepherd "gently leads those that have young". The though quickly came to me that Jesus was gently leading me for the 30+ years and probably all my life.
Specifically He spoke audibly to me when I lived in Texas when I was making appointments for job interviews in Virginia. I had finished talking to a manager of a hospital in VA. Had the appointment all set for the next month. When I hung up I heard a voice tell me that job was mine. I remember saying out loud, I do not know if that is you Lord talking to me or me talking to myself. I will believe it when I see it.
When I went for the interview I was offered the job on the spot.
So when God spoke to me to tell me to "go to that BIG church on Russell Rd off 95" I believed Him instantly. I had no question in my mind that it was God talking to me. I had heard His voice before. That was 21 years of gentle leading, between the 2 audible voices, that He did for me. Thank you awesome God. I praise you for leading me.

Diana,

Thank you for this post.
Thank you for confirming that God does speak to us, I know many people are doubtful about this.

I am sometimes hesitant to use that in my writing and yet I feel that I wouldn't be true to God or myself if I didn't.

Learning to listen for that gentle voice, hearing him and recognizing his voice without question is one of the greatest privileges a Christian has.
Thank you again dear child of God.

That is awsome Diana. I wait eagerly for the day when I can hear my Lord's voice. I know He is speaking to me through His word and bringing things to my mind, but I am yet to hear His voice. then again, I have only been on this walk for about 3-4 years now. But I'm amazed at how much truth and knowledge the Lord has shown me and I glory in Him for it all.

Paul, When God talked to me in Texas, in 1993, about the job in Virginia I was, what I call, a pseudo adventist. My name had been taken off the church books sometime in the mid 1980s. When I went to church it was to an SDA church. I am glad He did talk to me then. Because when it came time to find another church I had no idea what I needed. I felt like I was alone in this big world. I had just found this forum about a month & 1/2 before. But I still felt alone. When He told which church to go to, I knew immediately Who was talking to me. Thank You, Praise you God for talking to me.

I've never heard an audible voice, but God does talk to me all the time. it is always intersting to me how God communicates wth different people. I have a friend who knows it's God when it's a calm peaceful voice. A friend of hers knows it's God by which ear she hears a voice in.

I'm more like my friend, I guess, but it's hard for me to explain. I just know. Another way for me is prayer journalling.

I was taught that God doesn't talk to people. So I didn't talk about it, and of course on some level doubted it.

I know my family thinks I am crazy. (hmm, that's really a separate question though...) They aren't comfortable with me talking about God. Discussing rules and doctrine is fine though.

It is awesome to read of other people's experiences. I'm also very blessed to have an irl friend who is very open about God talking to her.

God spoke to Samuel when he was only three years old. It seems to me that God is the One Who decides if and when to audibly speak to someone. As rarely as it occurs, I don't think a believer should feel that they haven't matured long enough in their Christian walk or they're not doing something right. I'm sure you did hear God's voice, Diana, and I'm not discounting that. However, I'd bet it's more the norm to go your entire life never audibly hearing God's voice. The important part is spiritually recognizing God's voice and leading whether audible or not. There are certainly also people who claim to have audibly heard God's voice and couldn't have because what was said directly contradicts Scripture.

I agree, Raven, that people may go throughout their lives without hearing an audible voice...yet God distinctly communicates with them. Jesus said His sheep know His voice.

He definitely reveals Himself and communicates directly with us. I've never heard an audible voice, but I have heard Him! It overwhelms me that He lets us know who He is and speaks to us--this is the eternal, omniscient, almighty God we're talking about!

Yet we, His sheep, know His voice...

I have never heard an audible voice, I have heard people make the claim. I have no right to dispute them.

But the fact of God's having spoken to me is unquestionable, he has done that many times.

Actually he does speak audibly to us through the voice of others. Our spirits confirm truth, our spirits also confirm lies as untruth, I have had more of that since I came in contact with Adventism than I ever did before I came in contact with it.

I am not good at math. It was in 1993 God first spoke to me and 2004 when He spoke to me the second time. That was 11 years He was gently leading me.

God has spoken to me through others also. He does that quite frequently. In fact it was a Jewish friend in VA who brought it to my attention that my Higher Power spoke to me through her. That was before I was a born again Christian and before I left adventism for good. I was actively involved in my 12 step program.
