ASTOUNDING!!!!! (but not really) Down load the November 28/08 hour 2 pod cast. Wow! This is incredible. He asks her, "If you don't 'keep' the Sabbath, you won't get to heaven? She says, "No. I don't think so." Have you ever lied? Have you ever stolen something or taken something from someone else, even small? Have you even commited adultery. Have you ever hated someone. Have you ever used God's name in vain? What can save us from God's wrath? There is only one thing that can save us. Here is the good news of the gospel. Our God that is holy and just is filled with mercy ... What an incredible testimony! I loved these broadcasts, thanks for the link. The post-modern, emergent bank was great as well, as was the stuff on how to ruin your kids (first download). I am going to email "general@wayofthemaster.com" to thank them for the November 28 broadcast and give them information regarding the mass exodus from adventism (websites). These people (and all Christians) need to understand two things: 1) there are many, many people who do not feel good about their SDA background, are questioning and either finding God's truth or walking away from Him completely. 2) where an SDA is coming from so they know the best way to "handle" the uniqueness of the doctrines. Ray Comfort did such a beautiful job in directing the young SDA girl into Truth. What I find to be more meaningful to my spiritual journey, the longer I have been out of Adventism, is boldly speaking the truth of the darkness of SDA doctrines to fellow non-SDA Christians. It amazes me how many Christians think the Seventh Day Adventist church is just like any other Christian religion except for gathering together on Saturday. Most of my Christian friends had no idea what SDAs believe. When I told them, their mouth hung open. Some of them knew and thanked God I left adventism. One of the things God wants me to do is to tell others what adventism really believes. I do that every opportunity God gives me. Diana L | ||

When we started attending church after leaving Adventism, we told the pastor and his wife about some of the SDA beliefs. it was quite shocking to them, even though they had been missionaries with an SDA couple in the mid 70's. Sometimes, they would look at us like we had two heads!!! They knew some things, but not as much as we told them. Also, we watched the DVD, The Spirit Behind the Church (I think that is the name of it) with them. We would pause the DVD and make comments along the way. Finally, Randy (the pastor) said that he felt an oppressive spirit, a heavy feeling, and had a short prayer. I can only imagine how horrifying Adventism is to people who really don't know the truth of it. It really sounds crazy. It's actually a bit embarrasing to admit that you once believed such nonsense. | ||

Denise, it's good to see you again! I agree with you and Diana about the meaningfulness of speaking the truth of the darkness of Adventism to non-SDA Christians. They need to know, and we need to own the reality of what we were and of what we are in Christ. One of the ways God redeems our past is by equipping us to speak the truth about it. For those of you who talk with Christian pastors, what have you found to be the best resource to put into their hands? I know they are all so very busy that they need something clear and concise. I guess I'm hoping for something to help the looks that mean I must be really crazy or at the very least exaggerating greatly. | ||

I have a bunch of Ratzlaff's books "The Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventists". It is short, concise and tells what SDAs believe. I keep some in my car at all times. I never know when I need them. I have given this book to our senior pastor and to our care pastor. Diana L | ||

Right now I think the best book to use is Ratzlaff's recently revised "the Truth about Adventist "Truth"". It is fairly short and outlines systematically the worst problems with Adventist theology and practice. It includes a section on the Clear Word including comparative passages between it and the NASB. Cultic Doctrine is awesome, but it's quite long, and it doesn't address all the issues Truth about Truth addresses. It was written for the never-been-SDA Christian. Plus, the Truth book is a bit cheaper. Dale will sell them in bulk as well. Colleen | ||

I just ordered (received and read) 'The Truth About Adventist Truth'. I agree that it is a wonderful resource! As someone who was not a 'lifer', I had never read, much less studied, EGW before being baptized in the SDA church. If I had studied any of her books or writings, I don't believe I would have joined the church. Colleen, I also downloaded and printed one of your on-line articles - Adventism: A Thumbnail Sketch. I hope that was okay - I only did it for my own use - as a reference work. It's also short and concise and gives a brief, time-line history of SDA. I especially like 'Some Bible Texts - Adventist Interpretations and Evangelical Understanding'. Patti | ||

Thanks for the book idea. Patti, a special thanks for pointing me to Colleen's article. I've printed it up and will first run it past my husband to see if it rings true to what he's learned from me and other sources when he was a pastor. Then I plan to hand it to a Methodist pastor tomorrow and see if I can get some feedback from him. He's the one who told me I'd be happy as Methodist as they are "just like Adventists". I'm sure he got that idea from his long time neighbor Bert Beach. | ||

Here's an update on what happened once I gave Colleen's article to the Methodist pastor. Events transpired that it didn't happen until after the New Year's Eve service. On New Year's Day, he called. Not only had he read the article, but he had spent quite a bit of time online. Checked out Colleen, as the author. He went to the official SDA website to verify what was being said. To say he was shocked would be an understatement. He thanked me several times for sharing the article with him. I asked him if he would please pass on the info as he meets other pastors or people where the information is relevant. He assured me he would. Unfortunately, at times I've not gotten that positive of a response. I believe so many feel we are either exaggerating, angry or just didn't understand our own beliefs so they brush it off rather than doing their research like this pastor did. <sigh> But I do believe each of us as formers has a responsibility for educating those whom God puts in our path. | ||

Thanks for the update, Aliza. It's encouraging. I deeply believe we all have an obligation to educate those God puts in our path, too. I get SO frustrated with those who think we're just overreacting. But we have to keep doing it! We will often meet rebuff and arguments (I always want to say, "Why are you arguing with ME? I WAS an Adventist! Why would what you think be more accurate than what I know?) God will keep giving us words and wisdom as we submit this to Him and are willing to speak. Colleen |
