I emailed a link to the site for the Bible Studies For Adventists Page to an SDA aquaintance of mine.Along with the email i made a remark about Ellen White being a false messenger,prophet etc. He replied and asked me to give 1 example of where Ellen White was not consistent with scripture. Which example should I give to him? Anyone got any recommendations? | ||

Hey Jody, how about the one where Ellen says that God showed her in a vision that Sabbathkeeping is the great dividing wall between the people of God and the unbelievers and that furthermore if somebody had been a Sabbathkeeper and gave it up that the gates of Heaven were shut against them. You can contrast that with the Bible verse where Jesus breaks down the dividing wall by abolishing the Law in His flesh. | ||

My favorite, in fact what became the decisive point that convinced me she was false has to do with the Scapegoat. Keeping in mind that the Scapegoat was one of two that were 'without blemish', meaning they both represented 'being perfect and holy' and contrast that with what the Bible says about our sins being laid on Jesus. He carried them to 'a place unknown'. Satan has no part whatever in our redemption. Praise God! Phil | ||

going along with Grasshopper's idea of Satan impersonating Christ is what EGW wrote in Early Writings. On p. 146 she writes that after Satan fell with his angels (this is before Adam and Eve sinned), he was shut out of heaven forever. Then earlier in the book, Ellen describes what happens at the "end of the 2300 days" (p.56) which would be at 1844. She wrote that the "company" who were still bowed down didn't know that Jesus had left it. "Satan appeared to be by the throne, trying to carry on the work of God." ... so I guess Satan gets back into heaven after all. It's all so hard to follow EGW's logic (I'm not sure "logic" is the right word to use here) versus the simplicity of the gospel. I thank God everyday that the gospel of Christ is so simple that my child can understand it and she lives with God in her heart. ~vivian | ||

I've had good luck with asking them how they would define a false prophet. The Bible tells us to test prophecies and not believe anything a false prophet says. When they (always) say the prophecy has to agree with the Bible, I ask if a prophet could make a mistake that disagreed with the Bible and then correct it later. I ask if the previous mistake is still inspired. I then ask how if the church doesn't identify the previous error and people are still reading and believing the previous error they can keep false teaching and prophecy out of the church. Shouldn't the church of Jesus Christ warn people to discard the books containing the false prophecies that were given in youth or ignorance (or when the person was under the influence - sorry couldn't resist that one). Ask them what the church should do with those propets and prophecies. My final ZINGO questions are: 1.How many times can a prophet be mistaken about a vision before he or she as the case may be before someone is allowed the luxury of calling this person a false prophet. 2. Does the Bible give prophets/prophetesses the luxury of being wrong a few times and still allow the church to retain them in their fellowships as prophetic voices? I always ask too why William Miller is not called a false prophet. That one is always fun! For some specific stuff, how about asking why the dates don't work to get to 1844. You could also show them how Ellen White called both Jesus and Satan archangels. That means that either Jesus Christ is a created being (as satan is clearly from the Bible) or that satan is similar in pre existant status to Jesus. Both are so blasphemous that they are hard to type. Unless there are two different kinds of archangels, she was wrong. You could also find places where she clearly contrdicted herself and ask which one is to be believed. | ||

Ask them to read page 126 in Early Writings where she said she saw Jesus pleading with the Father to come up with a plan of salvation for humanity AFTER Adam and Eve had sinned. Ask if they really believe she saw that in vision. Then have them read from Desire of Ages page 22 where she says the plan of salvation was devised BEFORE Adam and Eve had sinned. She contradicts the Bible as well as herself. DT | ||

I don't remember where this is found, but I'm sure someone will: EGW predicted that some of those attending the Battle Creek Conference over a hundred years ago would be alive when Jesus returns. Obviously that prediction failed miserably. | ||

Jody...try these out if they will help you... the Word says that we are not to believe someone who prophesies and what they prophesy does not come to pass. They are NOT a prophet. Ellen White had Several FAILED prophesies. Here are just a few: In 1856 in Battle Creek, Michigan, Ellen White had a "vision" where she "saw" some of the people in attendance alive and translated when Jesus returns. It is now 2009, the youngest infant that was there has been dead for well over 50 years. During the Civil War, Ellen "prophesied" that England would attack the United States and humble them into the dust. Never happened. Ellen also predicted slavery would return in the US. Never happened. Ellen had a "vision" in 1846 in Topsham, Maine where she "saw" "tall, majestic people" living on Jupiter or Saturn. Hmmmmm, giant, slushy, balls of gas that are completely inhospitable to ANY kind of life, let alone human. Ellen wrote that volcanic eruptions are caused by oil and coal burning beneath the surface of the earth. Really?? Ellen White said Adam was 12 ft. tall when the Bible is SILENT on this. Ellen White said the Tower of Babel was built because the people feared another flood. The Bible says they did it to "make a name for themselves". | ||

Here is EGW statement about England declaring war on USA..... In 1862 she predicted that "when England does declare war [against the North, during the civil war]. all nations will have an interest of their own to serve, and there will be general war, general confusion." The result will be that "this nation [the United States] will...be humbled into the dust". Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, p. 259. American history clearly shows that England did not "declare war" against the United States during the Civil War, and the United States was not "humbled into the dust". Amazing huh??...must be all them oysters she devoured followed by the vinegar chaser... ...Animal...I couldnt resist...hehehehehehehehe | ||

Animal, No, it was the Battle of Gettysburg. The cotton mills of England were desperate for Southern cotton which was rotting on the docks because of the Union blockade. England really was on the verge of declaring support for the South and Old Ellen was simply "playing the odds", but God tripped her up. The North won the Battle of Gettysburg, and England backed off. She was a forecaster not a prophet. Sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. It's called gambling or if you get an education, you become a weather forecaster. Old Abe got on his knees and thanked God then declared a national holiday: Thanksgiving Day. Old Ellen was left choking on her vinegar. Phil | ||
