Ask An Adventist - Christ Question #5 Here is a question to ask your Adventist friends:How do you feel about the fact that Adventism teaches that both Jesus and Satan are archangels? (Compare 19 Manuscript Releases, vol 9, p 106, par. 2 with Signs of the Times, September 14, 1882 par. 9) Christ is an archangel:Christ resurrected Moses, and took him to heaven. This enraged Satan, and he accused the Son of God of invading his dominion by robbing the grave of his lawful prey. Jude says of the resurrection of Moses, "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee." (Review and Herald, March 3, 1874, par. 13) Jude presents the example of Christ. He says, "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil He disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee" [Jude 9]. (Manuscript Releases, vol 19, page 106, par. 2) Satan is an archangel:"Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry." Rebellion originated with Satan. Notwithstanding the exalted position which he occupied among the heavenly host, he became dissatisfied because he was not accorded supreme honor. Hence he questioned God's purposes and impugned his justice. He bent all his powers to allure the angels from their allegiance. The fact that he was an archangel, glorious and powerful, enabled him to exert a mighty influence. His complaints against God's government, at first met with no favor; yet being urged again and again, they were finally accepted by those who had before been loyal and happy subjects of the King of Heaven. There was not the shadow of justification or excuse for disaffection; but envy and jealousy, once cherished, gained a power that paralyzed reason and destroyed honor and loyalty. As the result, Satan and all his sympathizers were cast out of Heaven. (Signs of the Times, September 14, 1882 par. 9) Gilbert Jorgensen It has been 164 Years, 1 Months, and 13 Days since October 22, 1844 |

Gilbert, the longer I am out of Adventism, the more these EGW-isms upset me. She was truly a false prophet and blasphemous. Adventists still bear the legacy of those non-trinitarian, non-Christian founders. Even though they call Jesus "divine" and "God", they perceive Him as fundamentally "less than" the Father--weaker, less authoritative, less involved with punishment and wrath, less "knowing", etc etc. They do not honor Him as God Almighty in spite of whatever words they say. Bskillet mentioned this phenomenon a few days ago, and I totally agree. Adventists don't truly know who Jesus is. Some who desire to serve God and know Him belong to Him even without grasping who He fully is...but those people are being drawn out, whether they realize it yet or not! Adventism has no place for Jesus who is God Almighty, not exalted but eternally sovereign, possessed of all the attributes and characteristics of God—not merely possessed of one-third of "God". Thank you again for sharing some telling quotes. Colleen |

Here's another question to ask Adventists: "If God the Father has a body, then how can He be omnipresent?" This question is especially hard for them to give a reasonable answer to, in light of the fact that they claim that Jesus cannot be omnipresent because He has a human body. I suspect that many Adventists don't really believe that "the Father" is omnipresent, either, when it comes down to it... Jeremy (Message edited by Jeremy on December 12, 2008) |

Jeremy, that is such a good observation. I actually suspect the same thing. Especially where Adventists are "openness of God" proponents, the idea of an omnipresent God is about as unpalatable as God who knows the future! Colleen |
