I know where! "For to which of the angels did He ever say, 'You are My Son; today I have become Your Father,' or again, 'I will be His Father, and He will be My Son'?" - Hebrews 1:5 The term "angel" here is used to describe exactly what Jesus, the second member of the Godhead, ISN'T! |

Here's a good question. 2nd Corinthians 12:14 says that "even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." How can you be sure Ellen White's angel guide was from God? |

Gilbert, Exodus 3? 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up." 4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am." 5 "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." 6 Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. |

BSkillet, I love that response! Wow. I hadn't thought of that one. I wonder how an Adventist would reconcile that with Jude 9?Jude 1:9 (SDA Clear Word Bible) 9 In contrast to these ungodly men is the Lord Jesus Christ, also called Michael, the archangel in charge of the entire angelic host. When He was challenged by Satan about His intentions to resurrect Moses, He didn't come at Satan with a blistering attack nor did he belittle him. He simply said, "God rejects your claim to his body." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Texts credited to Clear Word are from The Clear Word, copyright © 1994, 2000, 2003, 2004 by Review and Herald Publishing Association. I found this verse last night and guess who I thought of: Do not let anyone disqualify you by making you humiliate yourself and worship angels. Such people enter into visions, which fill them with foolish pride because of their human way of thinking. Col. 2:18 (NCV) |

You know, the head elder at my former church gave a sermon about a year ago "proving" that Jesus was Michael, the archangel. It jumped all over the place saying that Jesus was the PRINCE of peace and that Michael was a prince. The said like it was stated above that Jesus often appeared as the ANGEL (or messenger) of the LORD. He said that when Jesus is called LORD of hosts, He is really being called head of all the angels (the archangel). The sermon was of course because I was challenging him on the issue - that Jesus was not Michael, the archangel. After the sermon - that people were saying is the best one he ever gave (insert audible gasp here) - I said to him "But you are still saying that Jesus is an angel." He said and get this, "Jesus is not an angel. Jesus (Michael) is head of all the angels and therefore does not need to be an angel himself to be an archangel." Has anyone ever heard this before that an archangel is not or does not really have to be an angel? He never responded (of course) to my showing him that Michael was ONE OF the chief princes. Jesus was never part of a set of anything. He is part of the trinity, God before the beginning of the world and forever. He was never an archangel! He is the LORD! There... I feel better now. |

Joyfulheart, perhaps he would like to explain how Adventism teaches that both God the Son and Satan are "archangels". See the thread I started at http://www.formeradventist.com/discus/messages/11/8022.html?1227447431 Adventism's teaching is actually very similar to Mormonism's in this regard where the Mormon's teach that Jesus and Satan were brothers. The end result is to make Satan and Jesus of equal power. This leads to such bizarre teachings as the concept that Jesus was on "probation". Who was his "probation officer"? See http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/christ_on-probation.php I'll bet you didn't know that Adventism teaches that during Christ's temptation in the wilderness that Satan offered to help Christ with the plan of salvation so he wouldn't have to go it alone! See http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/christ_satan-offers-to-help-with-plan-of-salvation.php And then we have the Adventist teaching that "man saves God" -- or more specifically "perfect" Adventists that have "ceased to sin" save God. They become His redeemer! http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_are-you-sinless-yet.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/ij_vindicate-god.php Since Adventists become sinless Christ is their example, rather than their Savior! http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_jesus-did-not-die-to-bring-us-salvation.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_what-was-the-value-of-the-cross.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_what-the-cross-means-to-the-adventist.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_what-it-takes-for-god-to-claim-us-as-his-own.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_outside-adventism-less-desirable.php http://exposingadventism.com/content/facts/salvation_not-found-outside-adventism.php Gilbert Jorgensen |
