Hi Patti, Good to hear directly from you;-)) I'm busy for a while but at first glance it seems that you were confusing OLD COVENANT times with NEW COVENANT times?! Could you go directly to 1 Cor. 11:23-34 and come back and tell me what that "specificly" means to you? Remember, the above is reflecting the brand new transition to the NEW COVENANT times. I just fail to see any relevance to the priest doing the examining in the OLD COVENANT to the here and now with the REAL blood of Jesus. Well I said I was busy and need to go;-(( Upward and onward..........Maryann |

Hi Patti, Just had to pull up a previous post of mine and would like you to answer it "specificly" too. You must have missed it last week. Here it is: "By Maryann on Thursday, October 5, 2000 - 07:25 pm: Hi Patti, I really want to have a conversation with you. I have to leave town tomorrow and don't know how much time I will have to talk. So, if I disappear for a while it will NOT because I don't want to talk to you. In regards to your above post you said: "But ANY discussion about our works is peripheral at best, because the Gospel is NOT about what we do; it is about Christ HAS DONE. Jesus Christ IS the Gospel." Did you happen to read the loooooooooooong post I made on the thread, "Witness in the Workplace?" I truly believe that the sterile environment I described in that post is evident in your very fiber and make-up. I may be wrong, but that is what I believe. Now, I really want to know something and I'm NOT being a smart aleck! When you are in an environment that verbally speaking the "gospel" as one would do in a church environment, family or friendly environment is NOT even a possibility, HOW DO YOU SHARE THE GOSPEL, LOVE OF GOD AND TRUE JOY? Remember, you can NOT talk about the Bible, Jesus or salvation without them first asking you. WHAT CAUSES A LOST SINNER TO ASK YOU ABOUT YOUR FAITH? WHAT CAUSES AN ANGRY LOST SINNER TO EVEN WANT TO TALK TO YOU???? IT JUST HAS TO BE THE "FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT" THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS ENABLED YOU TO PRODUCE BECAUSE OF YOUR JOY OF YOUR SALVATION! YOUR SALVATION THAT YOU HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH. YOUR SALVATION THAT WAS A GIFT OF GOD. YOUR SALVATION THAT WAS WHOLLY, TOTALLY, AND ABSOLUTELY SEPARATE FROM THE "FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT" NOW EVIDENT IN YOUR LIFE!! I am just beside myself in wonderment at how you have MISSED the context of what I have said in some recent post's!!!!! Your above 4 post's almost seem to be an attack rather then a discussion and I really would like to understand you and why you seem to be having the reaction you are having to this discussion;-)) I'm really looking forward to you addressing the above questions;-)) Upward and onward.........Maryann" Can you address this point by point with out generalizing;-)) Thank you. I would like to make a comment First I am thankful to be safely back at home. I thank God for his mercy and care over me. Now, I would like to say, and I think we all agree that love to God and love to man is the fulfilling of the law!!! Tell me you all, do you live up to this?? If we cannot keep the 10 commandments spelled out, how on earth can we love God and others perfectly? We are not justified before God by the keeping of any law or by our love. We are accepted of God because He is merciful to the sinner and has provided perfection is Jesus, spotless and pure. Not only was He the lamb that took away the sin of the world but he was the spotless lamb, approved by God. I will not bring my works before God as that is not what he has ask for. He asks for a perfect sacrifice and perfection from us. The only way to obtain it is by faith in Jesus as our substitute before His throne. Then our faith is counted for righteousness. We believe God's word!!!! He is truly merciful to the sinner. How many of you were bright lights shining before others without fault today? How is your character showing today? Did you mess up today, say some cross word without love? Oh, failed again? Somebody upset with you because you said something you should not have? Now what? Pick up the pieces and try again and hope that God will give you another chance? Or look to Jesus and bow at the cross and acknowledge that he is the only perfect light of the world, with a spotless character and acknowledge that we are sinners. If there is one out there can say they were without sin today, post it, I want to see it. Is there one out there that thinks in the future he will be a shining glorious light by his character before others and have a perfect love, I would sure like to meet him. This is what God demands of us. What a burden??? I will be looking for posts today to see who lived a perfect spotless character at work? If none, then let me see who is going to do it tomorrow. Just facing reality here. Not much rest in this belief. It is not to say that we do not suppress the evil nature when tempted and show our love to others by kindness and mercy. This is what God wants us to do. But our evil nature is very much alive and we will fail. We must fight it every day and it permeates all we do. But our acceptance with God is in Jesus. He is our rest and our Sabbath before God today and always. This is my faith!! There is a blessing in this belief and rest and peace in the conscience before God. Righteousness before God does not come by the keeping or the fulfilling of the 10 commandments by love, as we cannot do it. Righteousness before God is only by faith in Jesus and His spotless righteousness. He is the lamb that I will offer to God daily to be accepted of Him. By this sacrifice God is well pleased. |

It is so very true, Rayna, that, "Where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?" |

"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we toomay live a new life." |

"If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin -- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." |

DOES ANYONE ON FAFF WANT TO DENY THAT IN CHRIST WE LIVE A NEW LIFE? If so, then he or she will have to contend with Paul who wrote, "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him." --Romans 6:8 NIV. This means living NOW, not just in some future glorified state! "For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all [once for all time and once for all people both]; but the life he lives, he lives to God." --Romans 8:8-10 NIV. Now here's the kicker: "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you may obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as intstruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace." --Romans 6:11-14 NIV. Thank you God-Jesus, Max of the Cross |

Hi Patti, It was an excellent question. I did not answer it at the time because it would have taken us off of the course of Paul's line of argument that I was following. As you know, he deals with that question later. Be back shortly. |

Hi Patti again, Here's the question: ^^Are you saying, Max, that you have STOPPED sinning?^^ And here's my answer: ^^I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. [1] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.^^ --Romans 7:15-25 NIV. With no other answer, I remain, Max of the Cross |

Hi Patti and Rayna, Patti, could you specificly answer the TWO above post's from about 9am today and use your own words too. I would truly like to know how YOU interpret 1 Cor. 11:23-34 Going to the Old Testament rituals that Jesus exploded for your example just didn't connect in my head. PLEASE help me out;-)) Rayna, since you are also in this discussion, would you also answer the questions in my TWO above post's from about 9am today? Upward and onward.....Maryann |
