I just ordered a hardcopy of this book so I can study his specific allegations without having to print it all out.

The thing I found fascinating is that his business accepts orders and processes credit card payments on the Sabbath -- at least it is 11:41 pm Friday night here in Utah. His business is located in Minnesota and so I can say unequivocally that he just sold me a copy of his book on his Sabbath. So much for any arguments he has about "keeping the 7th-day Sabbath". Hmmm.

Or perhaps Bob Pickle has some way to rationalize doing business on the Sabbath. I am reminded of my favorite two-part Sabbath question for Adventists. I wonder how Bob would answer this?

quote:

Supposing that the 4th Commandment is treated as a moral law that is still binding:

1. Have you ever known anyone who was disciplined out of a congregation that you attended for Sabbath breaking?

2. Specifically and categorically, what must a person do, or not do, in order to disobey God's holy Sabbath law in such a way that he will be, as a result of his clear disobedience, disciplined out of the church that you have in mind?

Yes, you're hitting on the Achille's heel, Gilbert. Sigh.

I can't help but notice the irony of Ellen White accusing the Roman Catholic papacy of all manner of evil, including changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, while Bob Pickle in his response on the Sabbath seeks support from "Catholic writers" to buttress his response.

quote:

Commandments that are not built into the conscience, those that you have to be told about, are called "positive law." This is why the Sabbath commandment has been called by Catholic writers a "most positive command." While an awareness of the need for periodic rest is built into us, an awareness of which day to rest upon is not. Thus it is something we have to be told, not something we naturally know.

His response #161 is weak indeed. The Mormons use better logic than this!

It follows that if it is something "we have to be told, not something we naturally know" that we need to then be open to what the New Testament, for example Hebrews 3-4, has to say about it. Bob seems to overlook that aspect.

I have not read the rest, but if they are no better than this Mark Martin has nothing to fear. Pickle's response wouldn't stand a chance against a book like "The Sabbath and the Lord's Day", by H.M. Riggle.

I consider Riggle's book to be absolutely essential for any inquiring Seventh-day Adventist.
