Well, what was the Celebration SDA movement? During that time I was in the military and out of Adventist circles. I heard whispers about the movement. Each time I asked about it the question was avoided. |

I don't know too much about it, but I do remember my SDA family talking about it and considering it a heresy. From what they said, people were singing out loud and raising their hands and clapping and swaying...doesn't that sound awful?! Sounded like a nice worship service to me, haha. Leigh Anne |

There is still a celebration church in Redlands, CA. There may be others as well...but they may not call themselves Celebration churches. Originally they were marked by contemporary worship and music, and of course, the drums and praise songs horrified the faithful. Now, at least in California, celebration church leans towards charismatic worship and prayer. Understand that these are still Adventist churches, even though the pastors may not embrace all 28 Fundamentals nor teach them. But they are Sabbatarian; they are members of the conference from where the pastor is paid. Some celebration pastors neither teach Adventism clearly nor do they teach true Christianity clearly, tending to have fairly liberal views of Scripture and what it teaches. Bottom line: those that endure are still Adventist. They have become more or less accepted, and they have become a place where many people dissatisfied with Adventism find a place to go without having to deal with the Adventist bottom lines: Sabbath, EGW, and diminished view of Jesus. Colleen, The SDA church I attended here in Las Vegas is a Celebration church. The pastor (I do not want to mention his name)that you went to WWC with and asked that his name be taken off the Proclamation list used to be a pastor there. They had 2 services. The early one was traditional and the later one was with a music group-drums(his son plays the drums), keyboard, guitar. The music was lively. My ss class had a party at the leader's house and every one danced, even your friend from WWC. But it still was adventism through and through. Diana |

I visited the Celebration Church in Coral Springs, Florida when I wasn't satisfied with the SDA church I had my membership in. At the time, I liked the music and their children's program (it seemed livelier and the kids enjoyed it). Can't say much about the sermons as my kids would complain the music was too loud so we would end up leaving before the sermon began (looking back, I think that was a very good thing). I was still hanging on to the Sabbath then but was getting convinced EGW was not a prophet of God (I think I had already been lurking here). Anyways, I think it might serve as a bridge to people who aren't sure about all of the SDA doctrines, yet are seeking something. As Colleen always says, God uses everything (redeems everyting?).
