Beware of possums playing dead! When I lived in Redlands, I used to have a dog that loved to catch and kill possums. One night, out for a walk and just about back home, she happened to nail a good sized one. I thought she had actually bit him and killed him. So, I picked him up by his tail and went to take him on home. I carried him a good half block back to the house to show our little kids.

About the time I got back to the house, carrying Mr. Possum upside down by his tail, said possum exhibited signs of life by tightly curling his tail around my hand; curling up and trying to bite me while snarling and blowing. Fortunately, I carried a small leaded bat to dispatch any dog mauled possums with, and the possum and I proceeded to have a very wild time in my front yard!! I won, he lost and I didn't get bit. I learned to always whack 'em once or twice before you pick 'em up....

You know folks I have never noticed one of the “signs of the times” stand you folks are talking about and yet I know they must be around.

If it hadn’t been mentioned on here, I would never know what it was about, in fact I have never noticed their material in doctors office’s although I know it must be there from what has been mentioned on the forum, I believe Dianna mentioned it one time.

Not that I am too observant of these things, but something of a religious nature might have caught my eye, but it didn’t.

I think it just goes to show how woefully short on knowledge about Adventism the average evangelical really is.

Now I remember it I got one or three in the mail.

I tell you the truth when I tell you that I was never, ever aware of the doctrines Adventist propagate.

God must have had a special reason to prompt me so heavily not to use the internet to study these doctrines, every time I thought about it during that first four years I felt God restraining me from using it, he must have wanted me to get it down deep.

To tell you the truth I have just given up trying to figure out why I am here, why all this in my life in the first place.

Not that I am complaining mind you, I feel that my Bible growth has been phenomenal because of it and I have been blessed beyond measure.

Adventist are great at camouflaging the rotten core of their doctrine, it reminds me of a situation in the military, I was looking at a treeline, I looked and looked until I saw a very slight movement and I saw the soldier standing beside a tree, almost perfectly blended with the foliage.

It is really fascinating when you think of it, they “ hide in plain sight” just like that camouflaged soldier.

They hide in the language that Patria talked about, they hide in the slick covers of magazines and you really have to look close to see it, once discovered it becomes easier to spot, such as Gilberts “Adventism Exposed” series., but what did Jesus say? Something like “What is said in secret will be shouted from the rooftops?”

Help! My Pastor knows nothing about Adventism and next month everyone contributes something to him. I would like to get one of Dales books but do not know which would be best for someone who does not understand the teachings.
Yesterday I was in the christian book store and we were talking and I was trying to explain some of the adventist teachings and the gal I was talking to just shook her head with a puzzled look on her face. I asked her if she has heard of any former advestist group around and she said not that she knows of.
Colleen can I ask a favor of you? Do you know of any group in the Walla Walla/College Place, Washington area? If so could you e-mail me with the information? Thank-you everyone for your help.

I just came home from delivering some booklets and one of the pastors I spoke with said that he knew a number of Adventist pastors in another province here in Canada who were definitely born-again and also spirit filled. Because this pastor's church is a fairly charismatic one and he separated both issues my conclusion was that they were speaking in tongues. I thought that Adventists were very against this. Can anyone clue me in on this one?

Gail, I don't know of any group in Walla Walla. There are, though, several individuals in the surrounding area who might want to be in email contact if they read about it here...

If I were going to give a pastor something to read for the first time, I'd suggest Dale's The Truth about Seventh-day Adventist Truth coupled with the May/June, 2007 Proclamation magazine that explains the foundation of Adventism as it began in Arianism and the persistent influence of that Arian root.

I'd give him those and let him know there are websites for further info.

Blessed, there are some Adventists that are charismatic. Down here they usually meet at what are called the "Celebration" churches. While these churches are full-fledged SDA churches, they are often really "edgy" internally. They don't necessarily preach (or believe) all the doctrines. There is a great emphasis on experiencing the Spirit--and sometimes people are more caught up with the experience of seeking the Spirit than with doctrine.

There are some within the celebration movement who are looking for Jesus. Some of the former Adventists we know "passed through" the celebration church before leaving altogether.

These churches consider themselves charismatic churches and often the pastors are part of the local charismatic pastor's fellowships. It's one more venue in which they blend in with the Christian establishment. My hunch is that the pastor to whom you spoke is aware of some Adventists of this "stripe". Underneath it all, however, celebration Adventists are still Adventists. Most of them hold the same (distant) attachment to EGW that others hold. They remain Sabbatarian. They may nor be as apt to be vegetarians and may further be inclined to occasional use of alcohol/coffee. They have no more understanding of the true identity of Jesus and the Trinity than other Adventists have; they continue to understand the Bible through the EGW lens of Adventism. They're on the liberal end--yet they are charismatic.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Colleen. Because I have been out for so many years I was not aware of any of this. Thanks for "enlightening" me.

Dale's book, The Truth About Seventh-day Adventist "Truth", just arrived today. Since I get my mail in town, I went over to the grocery store a put a copy in the stand, on top of the Signs of the Times. I even felt so good doing that, I popped my suspenders a couple a times as I strutted away to my car.

I must say that the task of passing these books out to those we need to share them with is something way beyond anything I have done in a long time.

River, it is a little late in the day for me to start on a trip now, but my plan is to come down next Monday and I will be bring some of the books to share. I will phone later this week to conferm the trip.

Phil, that's awesome! I can absolutely see you popping your suspenders, too!

How cool that you and River are going to meet each other!

Phil,

Go back and stuff a Truth book inside each magazine!

Or else trash the magazines, leaving only a book or two.
