The young lady that I share a ride to work with was telling me today about the reading plan she is using to read the Bible in a year. Last night her husband asked her who Cain married. Then when he would not tell her the answer he said that their granddaughter would ask her some day and she should know. I came home and opened my Bible to Genesis and guess what, it does not say. Did Cain marry a sister, seeing as the only people were Adam and Eve. No mention is made of any women in the family. Then in Gen. 4:26 it says "To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time men began to call upon the name of the Lord." That tells me that some where between being evicted from the Garden of Eden and Enosh, men/human kind did not call upon God. Does this mean they did not worship God?? Diana | ||

Diana, Since the Bible does not state that the genealogies are listing everybody in each generation, it is safe to assume that there were many people born who are not mentioned in the Bible. Remember, the law against such close inter-marriage did not come until long after the flood when mankind had degenerated physically and such a law was needed. Since Adam and Eve were the only people on the earth, the only possible answer is that he married a sister, or possibly a cousin if he had brothers or sisters with several generations present. As for the other question, I would guess it means what it says about calling upon the name of the Lord. What that implies I am not sure, but I am sure our theologians will respond with an answer. Diana, actually Genesis does mention Adam and Eve having daughters:

I've always understood the reference to "Calling on the Name of the Lord" to refer to the fact that they did not yet know God's name - at least not the name God gave Moses. |
