Hey folks. Danny Shelton visited our church this last saturday. Hold your applause--yes, you heard me right, our humble little church. Of course he has to since the main board member of 3abn who is helping to bail out Danny is a pillar in this church. Prior to his visit, I mustered up the courage to give my wife a copy of the story "The Televangelist" along with a copy of Linda Shelton's side of the events surrounding her eviction from 3abn. I placed it on the counter before I left for work that morning asking her to read it. When I got home, she said she was disgusted by the sliminess of Danny's actions. Which was reflected in her opinion of him after we got home from church. She said, "You know, he didn't really have anything new to say from the last time he was here." But the way that people in the congregation were so enamored by him speaking and talking and yammering on, it made me sick. My wife wanted to leave, too, but there were a couple of people she wanted to visit with after the service so for her sake I didn't push it. My wife is not as strict of an sda as I thought she was. I guess I project my own interpretation of her committment to the sda beliefs on her. She does the adventist thing because that is all she knows and it is so engrained in her from her upbringing that she does things because it is what she was taught...We are going to a family reunion on her side for her parent's anniversary this weekend, several of her brothers and sisters are no longer adventists or at don't attend sda church any more. I think I'd like to pick their brains a bit. Well have a good day or night where ever you are. |

Hey Zjason, with those clues in your first paragraph, I know which church you're talking about. My ex worked for the SDA-owned business in town when he was in college. I lived and worked in Rochester for several years. When I was married, my ex had to get the satellite in order to get 3ABN in clearly. Something about Danny Shelton's eyes always has creeped me out! |

I got a free 3abn receiver if anyone wants it, no dish, I was so disgusted that my Adventist friends talked me into wasting 200.00 that I took my metal chop saw to the thing so I wouldn't have to look at it. River |

From http://www.save3abn.com/index.htm
quote:A Little History of the Current Crisis By early March 2004, 3ABN co-founder Linda Shelton was being accused by her husband and 3ABN co-founder Danny Shelton of having an inappropriate, long-distance relationship with a doctor in Norway. This resulted in her being placed on administrative leave and eventually being terminated in disgrace and divorced. The reason was simple: she was accused of being unfaithful to her husband, and of having committed adultery. Linda's position as production manager was taken over by Danny's older brother Tommy, even though he had repeatedly been accused of sexual misconduct with men and boys over a period of many years. On November 27, 2006, the 3ABN board chairman, Dr. Walt Thompson, essentially admitted in writing that Danny had been involved in a cover up of these allegations around May of 2003. On December 3, 2006, the Church of God pastor of the Dunn Loring, Virginia, congregation where Tommy pastored from 1995 until about late 2000, announced that there were three new allegations of sexual misconduct there, one involving an individual who was a minor at the time. Danny Shelton's response to these new allegations is quite different than how he dealt with Linda. Tommy was not placed on administrative leave, and on December 31, 2006, Danny gave Tommy a globally-televised tribute, praising him for His Christian experience and how much better a job he had done than his predecessor. Though claiming that Tommy was going off into retirement three months early because of poor health, Danny promised repeatedly that Tommy would be back, as long as his health continued. Even if Linda was guilty as charged, the difference in treatment raises many questions. And to complicate things further, while no evidence in support of Linda's guilt has been forthcoming, credible evidence has surfaced in support of the allegations against Tommy, including a letter of "confession" written by Tommy himself. These actions on Danny Shelton's part brought about the launch of this website.

Hey Zjason and Madelia, I spent the summer of 1987 at that certain previously owned Adventist business. I visited that local church also every Sabbath. Its a small world when your were an Adventist. Alan |

Alan, My ex had some tales to tell of how he was treated at that business. Maybe it was just his exagerration, but it certainl didn't sound like a good work environment! I didn't become an Adventist until I met my ex, but I passed by that church and business many times. |

Pheeki, Here's what it says: Danny Shelton, founder of 3ABN, was admitted to St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, September 16, 2007. Doctors discovered that he had severe arterial blockage to his heart and placed a stint in the main artery to relieve that problem. They also indicated they would be treating other blocked blood vessels with medication while stressing the seriousness of his advanced heart disease. Danny is a life long vegetarian who exercises regularly, however, his father died at an early age of heart disease. Danny was released from the hospital on today, September 18, 2007, and he asked that the 3ABN viewers, listeners and supporters continue to pray for him |

thanks! I will pray for him...however...just goes to show the SDA diet isn't the best. All that fried vegemeat, cheese and pasta!!! The truth is we don't live one minute longer than our preordained days God gave us!!! You can try to preserve your life through diet, and it will make your quality of life better, but you can't do a darn thing about the quantity!!! Most SDA spend tons of time and money trying to delay their soul sleep...I don't blame them. If that's all I thought I was getting, I would want it prolonged too!!!!!!!!!!!! |

They had heystacks for dinner after the service. I always thought it was cool the way you could stack 2000 calories on a paper plate. Look out if you are in the way when dessert is set out. Fella could get trampled. I was surprised to read that he was in the hospital for his heart. Could've been just as easily at the hospital I work at, in the unit I work on. That would've been too surreal for me. I need to go to bed. Oh. By the way Madelia, maybe I could ask further questions about your perceptions of this particular company at DC as well as your experiences in Rochester. I have been at both churches. |

I should have clarified that the DC company was not Adventist owned, but owned by an Adventist family. Just trying to be accurate! Alan |

This is a little OT but the comment about haystacks and dessert brought this to mind: I took a double fudge coca cola cake to hubby's family. They didn't mind all the sugar and chocolate in the cake but were very concerned to make sure that I'd used decaffeinated cola in it. |

Lucybugg, They probably would have preferred prunes in the cake over cola; the favored cake at the Loma Linda Market is chocolate prune cake. I guess the prunes are supposed to cancel out the sugar, chocolate, oil, eggs and buttermilk. |

And don't forget the "white flour" and baking soda/powder (also prohibited by EGW!). Hmmm, I guess every ingredient of a cake is "forbidden"? Ha! Jeremy |

Isn't it just too funny? The stark contradictions we lived with and didn't bother to worry about... I had a dear friend in jr. high whose mom was an amazing cook. She used plenty of refined flour, sugar, and fats, too; I loved eating at her house. (Her cinnamon rolls and "rhubarb roly-poly" were to die for...) But, in obedience to the Spirit of Prophecy, they didn't use milk. Soy all the way...except for the ice cream: nice, rich, full-fat, real milk and cream ice cream! And they ate if often... I do remember my mom remarking on that paradox a time or two... Colleen |

All this talk about cake ingredients jogs my memory concerning a different food…homemade tamales. First, you need to know dad hated just about everything related to the SDA teachings. Right about when I was twelve years old and when I joined the SDA church, some friends of dad's introduced us to this delicacy called tamales. Mother and the rest of us didn't know what was in them but I am sure dad did. Masa dough, when they are the real deal, has about 30% lard in it. You spread some masa on a softened corn husk, put some filling on and then roll them up. After that, you steam them. I have since learned to make them myself, but, for health reasons, I only do it once every two or three years or so. To borrow Colleen's expression, they are something to die for. Phil |
