These discussions are a means to assist and congregate points of view. I do not believe anyone is attempting to make up anyones mind.

Accept or reject. That is our freedom.

There is always the possibility of getting a Bible passage tattooed on you, so that even your skin preaches the Gospel. :-)

I've got the perfect verse: "For I am persuaded that neither life nor death, nor things present, nor things to come . . . ." (and on to the conclusion of the passage).

excuse me, Sara. Sorry to make such repulsive threads. I'm not so experienced in the freedom out of sdaism. Perhaps you should stay away, if you don't like it. <enter sarcastic smiley>

Thank you Jim02. That's exactly why I asked

I have not said anything here, because I could care less if a person does or does not have a tatto. But I have to tell you of the tattoes I saw at the Celebrate Recovery summit 2 weeks ago. A couple of the men had Celebrate tattoes on one arm and Recovery on the other arm. About 2 inches high. I think they are former bikers. Now they are tattoed for God and when some one asks what the tattoes mean, they will tell the person what God has done for them. Oh, when their photo was taken with their elbows flexed so one could read what is said, it is read left to right.
Just my opinion.

I might go for an open Bible tattoo if someone will get it for me :-) How about you Dianna, you up for it?

If so when you come to Portland, i'll find a Tattoo Parlor and watch, give you moral support, when the needle goes to your skin I'll give a good sounding ouch, I might even be willing to pay for the penicillin if you get infected. :-)

Aren't I a good friend?

River, I have done without a tatto all my life. Do not need or want one now. How about you?
I will watch you get it. I will not pay for it.
Your good friend.

It's a good idea to eat before you get a tattoo, because your blood tends to rush to the site of the tattoo and that can make your stomach a little sick if it's empty.

Anyway, if I ever got another tattoo, it might be "agapetos" ("beloved" in Greek) or something else of His love. I have no plans to do so, but I have to admit the thought is terribly fun. After all, if this Guy loves me so much as to engrave my name on His hands, certainly engraving His name on me somewhere out of love wouldn't be too out of character! :-)

(Haha, we're all going to be wearing His name on our foreheads for eternity, anyways! -- see Revelation 22!)

:-) Lux,
Its a love-hate thing!
Once I remind myself that eternity does not hinge on my getting the right answer to these types of questions I can relax.

God's got my back. Even if I put a tatoo on it.
Thats my two cents.

One of my dear friends is a chaplain in the Navy. As soon as he got ordained he went right down to the tattoo parlor and had a trinity knot tattooed on his ankle. (Don't know why his ankle??!) He also had a couple of fish put on his shoulder. Boy did he get it from his father! What's funny is this guy could pass for Opie Taylor. He's this clean cut, friendly down-home guy. Blond hair, blue eyes and dimples.

I used to think that tattoos were for sailors, bikers and drug addicts, but since knowing Chaplain Wayne (he even drives a Harley) I've changed my mind about it. I'm still not a fan of the people who cover themselves and peirce everthing that's not glued down, but it won't stop me from sharing the love of Christ with them. (Or anyone for that matter!)

Sara, I'm not worried about my salvation and don't think it was a salvational issue, just wanted to see what you guys thought of them because my mom has made a big issue over it because my sister got another one. If you would slow down and read what I said without judging me or jumping to conclusions, you wouldn't make a fool out of yourself. So stop acting like you know me when you don't. Thank you.

Im sorry, Luz, if I offended you.

I was not attempting to make any statements about you personally, I was taking about myself.

I was attempting to join in with all the teasing and laughter on this thread. Thats why I posted :-)'s and (wink's). When I read your "(enter sarcastic smiley)" comment, I thought you were teasing back. My response was meant to be light and friendly, not judgmental.

I have to admit, the other night at our step study some one mentioned tattos and I mentioned I had thought of getting a capitol CR on my right shoulder. CR is for celebrate recovery. I probably won't though. It was just a passing thought as I was with a bunch of younger women. They keep me young.
Our awesome God provides me with all ages of friends.

There are two sides of the tattoo issue. I would never have one. I think it disgraces the body God gave me. I look bad enough with no hair now! However, I cannot allow myself to look down on anyone who has a tattoo. God looks on the heart, not the skin. I recall some of the rules at Monterey Bay Academy when I was a student there in ’56 and a teacher from 72-79. The problem was that the faculty tried to make the rules of the school, God’s rules. A school, family or company can and should have dress and conduct codes. It is often the case, however, that we Christians try to find some biblical authority for our rules. This confuses the minds of youth and compromises the gospel. Let’s keep school, family and business rules separate from God’s rules and try to follow each.

Luz, from reading the posts I didn't think that Sara sounded like she was judging you at all. We all truly love each other in here and I'm sure that Sara was just teasing like she said.

We're all a family around here, warts and all. In the words of my daughter at age 3, Yets yust yuv each ufah (lets just love each other)!

:-) Not tattooed but friends with those who are,

Luz, Leigh Anne's right--I know Sara was just kidding! And Dale, I respect your assessment above. I remember when I taught at Gem State Academy we had one principal who actually had the guts to tell the students that we had two kinds of rules: moral rules and convenience rules, and he identified the "convenience" rules. I really respected him for that.

The further away I get from my previous understandings and viewpoints, the less judgmental I have become on many things that I now consider, things that don't matter.(sorry for the long sentence.)

I have to put tattoos in the same category as earrings. Just because I don't care to have one, doesn't mean I see any reason not to have one. I certainly see no biblical directive against either, and some day I might just get a tattoo or an earring. Freedom is wonderful.

As far as tarnishing the body that God gave us, I think we do more harm to that sanctuary, through unhealhty eating and lack of exersize than by a simple tattoo.

And I have to ask,

Am I the only person here who looks at this thread, and thinks of a little french dude hollering "De plane, boss, de plane"?

Peace all,

Randy

I'm sorry for coming off so harsh. I'm so new to this thing and I was in a sour mood that I interpreted your words wrong. I apologize.

I foolishly got one when I was in the Military, but it is high up on my left bicep, so unless I wear a tank top it is not visible. But I do find men and women with their entire arms covered in tats very distasteful, maybe it is me, but that does not look very decent.

Well, if you run into people that are covered with tatoos, you can find something neat to look at and ask them about it. Funny thing is, you can ask them if they'd like to be saved at the same time. Tatoos serve as an opening line.

Luz, just get a cute '777' tatooed on your forehead and watch the sda's start squirming!
