quote:

Herod's heart had grown still harder; and when he heard that Christ had risen, he was not much troubled. He took the life of James, and when he saw that this pleased the Jews, he took Peter also, intending to put him to death. But God had a work for Peter to do, and sent his angel to deliver him. Herod was visited with the judgments of God. While exalting himself in the presence of a great multitude, he was smitten by the angel of the Lord, and died a most horrible death.

It was Herod Antipas who took part in the trial of Christ, and Herod Agrippa I who put James to death. Agrippa was nephew and brother-in-law of Antipas. Through intrigue he secured the throne of Antipas for himself, and on coming to power pursued the same course toward Christians that Antipas had followed. In the Herodian dynasty there were six persons who bore the name Herod. According to the passage above Ellen evidently "was shown" that Herod Antipas and Agrippa I "amalgamated" into one Herod. Thus she "saw" the same person both hearing that Christ had risen, and taking the life of James!

That is most amazing, Gilbert. My goodness, I wonder how many Adventists actually have "registered" that she made this rather glaring historical error? It's one thing to rationalize her cheese prohibitions in an attempt to preserve her inspired status. It's quite another to have God show her the sort of error for which junior high students would lose points (if junior high students actually studied Roman history...).

These quotes, Gilbert, are so revealing. What can possibly defend her honor? She was completely a fraud--and completely sold out to darkness.

Gilbert, these quotations has helped me very much.
I search this quotation to get a connection:

quote:

Well, my dear Willie and Edson and Emma, let us draw very nigh to God. Let us live daily as we would wish we had lived when the judgment shall sit and the books shall be opened, and when everyone will be rewarded according to his works. I am not cast down nor discouraged, but I feel weighed down as a cart beneath sheaves. We have had several days of beautiful weather. It has commenced raining this afternoon. Tell Mary to find me some histories of the Bible that would give me the order of events. I have nothing and can find nothing in the library here.-- Letter 38, 1885, p. 8.

Did anybody tell her the wrong history about many things?

My goodness, Lordsanointed, that is amazing. I wonder why it never dawned on her to read the Bible. Actually, I wonder what events she was curious about.

The events during the monarchy are a bit harder to "line up" without some help (especially if one has trouble focusing when reading the historical books like 1 and 2 Chronicles and 1 and 2 Samuel, etc.), but the events through the time of the Judges are pretty easy to follow, and the events of the early church are likewise quite easy to figure out. And the three kings of the United Monarchy are also pretty clear.

So, what was she wanting to know?

No wonder nothing she wrote made sense when you look at it closely. She had no personal knowledge of the Bible; she learned about it by reading others. When she tried to put it all together herself, she had no basic Bible knowledge or study skills to use to check her details. Again, it's like trying to write a final essay test about a book you haven't actually read.

I had a few students turn in book reports on classics such as "Little Women", etc., when they hadn't read the book but had watched the movie. They thought they were so clever to avoid the reading but do the assignment. What they didn't figure out was that I also had watched the move—and I'd read the book. They aren't the same.

Ellen wrote her stuff using secondary sources.

Good point, Collen.
I was thinking: We find in her writings "I was shown", but why do a prophetess need to know the order of events to write her visions?(My assumption). If she knew the correct order, would she see the correct vision?
Why do a prophetess need somebody to review her writings, making corrections, specially about theological issues? So weird.

I have talked to my girlfriend about this issue and many others. I canīt understand how she is feeling, she noticed she was deceived. I talked to her about many discussion I have had with some adventists, and their answers... I always show to her their answers and the answer from white estate... She concluded by herself the "mental gymnastic" that they try.
I didnīt finish the document I was writing because she asked me for it(incomplete). She read and she talked to others adventists about the issues, and she analyzed everything.
What I read here in many testimonies: How you feel when recognize it, how your faith is shaken, etc. , I can note in her.
So, I ask for your prayers.

In Christ,

Lordsanointed,
As SDAs we did have to jump through many hoops to believe it. Don't have to do that any more.
I will continue to pray for your girl friend and her family.

Lordsanointed, Gilbert et al....

I guess the previous quote on the Enoch thread must have been written in a town that also had a substandard library.

I find this 1885 quote most intriguing, as it seems that the accuracy of the message was dependant on the availability of adequate library resources.

Apparently Mary wasn't around in 1875 either, to go fetch some books on biblical order, or so it would seem.

Randy, you crack me up! I was laughing so hard I had to stop and catch my breath! Great observation. Who needs TV? I suppose it takes a vinegar addiction to really understand what she is trying to say ...
