quote:

Fashion loads the heads of women with artificial braids and pads, which do not add to their beauty, but give an unnatural shape to the head. The hair is strained and forced into unnatural positions, and it is not possible for the heads of these fashionable ladies to be comfortable. The artificial hair and pads covering the base of the brain, heat and excite the spinal nerves centering in the brain. The head should ever be kept cool. The heat caused by these artificials induces the blood to the brain. The action of the blood upon the lower or animal organs of the brain, causes unnatural activity, tends to recklessness in morals, and the mind and heart is in danger of being corrupted. As the animal organs are excited and strengthened, the moral are enfeebled. The moral and intellectual powers of the mind become servants to the animal.
The Health Reformer, October 1, 1871, paragraph 9

Does God have animal organs in his brain?

Hi Gilbert. I also notice that you posted this on CARM. Did you see the repsonse an Adventist wrote defending Ellen's absurd statement?

Here was my response at CARM:

You don't understand that part? I learned in psychology class that a part of the brain are "moral-less" (if that's the right term) and that it is governed by the frontal lobe. It is why lobotomy of the frontal lobe as a remedy for bipolar disorder and other disorders didn't work very well. It caused people to not care if they were violent, vulgar, abusive, decadent, etc.

I would say, Ellen White was scientifically correct on that one.

I'm sorry, cbm8919. You failed the test. Do not pass "Go". Do not collect $100. Here again is what Ellen White wrote:

Unless your brain is installed upside down, the base of the brain is usually in the lower back of the head. Also I don't know of very many people that put wigs and pads on their foreheads!

For a time Ellen White was a proponent of phrenology. She even took her son Edson to a phrenologist to see if the "bumps" on his head were in the right places to suggest good moral character.

According to the "science" of phrenology, the animal organs of the brain were located in the back and lower part of the head, while organs of intellect and sentiment occupied the frontal region. Heating the back of the head brought blood to this area and supposedly stimulated the sexual passions.

If you search Ellen White's writings at whiteestate.org, you will find the Ellen White always identified the "animal organs" as being in the lower back of the head.

River, I suspect that is how Ellen White made it to her theory of "Amalgamation of Man and Beast".

Then I guess baldness or even shaving the head should yield scrupulous morals...

There really wasn't any place in her amalgamation of science and religion for a literal new birth by the Spirit, was there?
