I would add that getting a good study translation is a good idea. NASB is my favorite for that purpose. I'm not sure what the others recommend. I think Ryrie has a good NASB study Bible but I'm sure there are several good ones.

I just recently bought an NASB study Bible called the New Inductive Study Bible. I would highly recommend it. The method that is shown is similar (maybe the same?) as the link Colleen posted. As someone who never learned to study the Bible, it has taught me to see the Bible in a whole new light and gain so much more insight from my study =)I think it is so important to know how to truly study the Bible, so that you can become solidified in Scriptural truth.

I have that bible and I like it very much! It's put out by Precept Ministries (Kay Arthur) which is a ministry teaching how to study the bible inductively.

Perhaps I was misunderstood.
I believe the Bible is the best resource we have available. I also believe it contains what we need to know for salvation.

If I was not tolerant of others view points I could not be such a good friend with my oldest sister. If the other's view point is non biblical I pray for them.

I believe Paul lays down some good principles on where to draw the line between varying opinions that Christians may hold and teachings that must be defended al all costs. In essence what matters is how a particular opinion or teaching relates to the gospel. If a teaching compromises the gospel—how one is saved—it is to be exposed as error. For example, you do not see LAM coming out against other seventh-day churches which do not see the Sabbath as a test or salvation issue. We believe one can worship on any or every day. However, when keeping the Sabbath becomes a salvation issue, then we must come against that teachings as strongly as Paul did against the Galatian heresy, which Adventism appears to resemble. |
