The College of Medical Evangelists (the original name of Loma Linda University) dedicated The White Memorial Medical Center in 1918. The "White" campus, which includes The White Memorial Church, became the site of the clincial training for Loma Linda University's School of Medicine and Nursing and was known as "the Los Angeles Division of CME". It was built largely by funds raised by "Sister White's sisters in the church, under the leadership of Mrs. Steven N. Haskell..." (Quoted from A Cedntury of Caring, the centennial celebration book produced by the LLU School of Nursing in 2005.) It wasn't until the early 60's—62, if I remember right—when the current LLU Medical Center was built that the clinical portion of the School of Medicine came to the Loma Linda Campus. "The White" still is the site of certain clinical rotations for LLU. It is in East Los Angeles. Colleen |

I think it is so good that we do not have to be associated with that any more. We can pray for those still in adventism, but we do not have to believe it. Thank you God. You are so awesome. Diana |

Diverse ethnic! Did you catch that? Ellen White did not even think black people were worth preaching to...remember? That is the biggest bunch of crap I have seen! She was nothing but a racist!!! |

I agree that Ellen White was a racist. If you read some of the stuff she wrote about African-Americans I don't know what other conclusions one could come up with. Would a TRUE prophet of God be a racist, I don't think so. Moses was married to a Black woman, and when his sister Miriam criticised him for it she was rebuked by God. |

This reminds me of something that happened in our SDA church right before we left. Our church operated a tiny one room school out in the country with about 15 kids in it. Most of whom had their tuition paid with my tithe and offerings. They were in the process of building a nature reserve in the back yard of the school. One week when we sat down for church someone got up to give a little talk about the nature reserve and he had a powerpoint presentation. The first slide had a nice little picture of the woods and it said "welcome to Whitewood". I glanced at it and went back to reading my bulletin. My husband nudged me and said don't you know why they named it that. Stupid me, I said I figured there were whitewood trees there or something. He said No! Ellen White. I started listening to the speal, and he was right. They named the woods after her! This may seem insignificant to some people, but it disgusted me. And the guy up there talking had told me privately many times that he had no use for EGW. He was not even a member for many years because of his feelings towards her. He got baptized at the pressure of his family after their 3rd child was born. I could not stand to hear him stand up there and talk about "whitewood" knowing all the things he had said to me. I could not give another penny to that church after that day. I can't believe how upset I still get about these things. I wish I didn't. Laurie |
