I read on-line EGW stated there were people living on other planets and galaxies,I asked my husband about this he said the bible does mention proof of people living beyond our planet and solar system.Where in the bible can I find the text to support this belief? My husband says he no longer "believes" in EGW as a prophet, but I know better than that because he still upholds some of her beliefs and ideas which are not biblical or can't be proven.

The only people I know that seem to live on another planet are Adventist. Heh heh.

I just had too say that.

I don't believe you will find even a vague text to support other planetary life.

I'm pretty sure the text(s) SDA's refer to in support of the idea of people living on planets beyond are solar system is one or more of these:

quote:

Job 1:6
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

Job 2:1
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD.

Job 38:6b,7
Or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

I think the speculation is that Adam was a "son of God" and therefore all planets in which God placed a being as He did Adam was also a "son of God." Of course this speculation comes direct from EGW, so yet again we have a case where EGW is used to interpret Scripture.

I thought those passages were speaking of angels and not aliens in other planets. Which reminds me of another interesting topic in Genesis 6 that speaks of the sons of God mingling with men and giants were about the earth and God repented of making man because their thoughts were evil continuously. Is that chapter talking about angels fornicating with humans? I've wondered about that passage and do not know what to make of it.

Genesis 6:1-7
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

quote:

"The Lord has given me a view of other worlds. Wings were given me, and an angel attended me from the city to a place that was bright and glorious. The grass of the place was living green, and the birds there warbled a sweet song. The inhabitants of the place were of all sizes; they were noble, majestic, and lovely. They bore the express image of Jesus, and their countenances beamed with holy joy, expressive of the freedom and happiness of the place." Early Writings, pp. 39, 40

The Bible does not teach that intelligent life exists elsewhere in our universe. Although our all-powerful God could have created such life had He desired, it seems rather obvious from Scripture that He did not. The timetable for this present universe is measured by God's dealings with us. It appears that God has created the human race, on the planet called Earth, as the sole beneficiary of His fellowship. This fellowship is of such a unique design that we are told that God's only true extra-terrestrial creations—angels—are eager to observe it in action. It is our privilege to be the center of attention in our vast and wonder-filled universe.

The Scriptures do not directly address the question of alien beings. The Bible does not explicitly confirm or deny the existence of intelligent life from other planets. Although the subject is not addressed explicitly, the Bible teaches implicitly that the only things He created with intelligence are the angels, man, and the animals. http://tinyurl.com/yvze5h

Proverbs 30:5-6
"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.

Ellen and James were liars.

Liars go into the lake of fire.

Larry, is that why we have the saying "liar, liar pants on fire" maybe the kids are brighter that we thought

Luz, that scripture has been mulled over and debated and wondered about since mud was invented.

I think he simply meant that in the sense of "He made man first" then the woman and not spirit beings being able to have sex with women or would have any desire or reason to do so.
I took a look at Genesis 6 in my Zondervan amplified bible and here is the way the two verses read per him.
Genesis 6:1 When men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them.
2. The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair, and they and took wives of all they desired and *chose*.
Men are known as the son’s of God, not angels as for as I know, they are called angels, not sons. Jesus was born of Mary and became the Son of God.
So, ditto, son’s of God.

The origin of the phrase "Liar, liar, pants on fire, hang them up on telephone wire" has been tough to track down, but this derisive rhyme was most likely said first by an adult to a lying child, and later the child began to use the phrase.

Marlon Brando said in his 1972 movie, Last Tango In Paris: "Liar liar, pants on fire, nose as long as telephone wire".

Larry,

And then later on in that paragraph that you quoted from, EGW even quotes the alien beings, that she says she communicated with! The whole long paragraph sounds very occultic.

The Bible is pretty clear that only the earth was created to be inhabited:

quote:

"For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited),
'I am the LORD, and there is none else." (Isaiah 45:18 NASB.)

Jeremy,

No other prophet in recorded history ever talked with beings from another created world (other than God, Jesus and angels), yet the sda's just happen to have THE prophet that has? Incredible! </sarcasm>

I like the rendering of the verse you chose in the NIV:

Isaiah 45:18
For this is what the LORD says—
he who created the heavens,
he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth,
he founded it;
he did not create it to be empty,
but formed it to be inhabited—
he says:
"I am the LORD,
and there is no other.

Incidentally, my family has derided me for the use of NIV in the past, actually laughing out loud at it. Then several weeks ago they attended some sort of White Summit at the Oregon Campmeeting where they were told the church is going to shift over to NIV now. It'd be funny if it were not so deadly.

Did a little searching on Biblegateway and guess what... KJV and NASB both say worlds at Hebrews 11.

Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

English Standard Version just says "universe was created"

NIV says "the universe was formed"

Now I would like to know what the Greek really intends.

Larry,

The word is "aionas," which is often translated "forever," or "eternal," or "for ever."

The words, "tous ainoas" could be literally rendered, "the ages," and is translated, "the worlds" in Hebrews 1:2.

Commenting on Hebrews 11:3 John MacArthur writes:
"God did not just create the world, but the worlds (aion), which designates the physical universe itself and also its operation, its administration. He created everything simply by His word (rhema), His divine utterance. He created from nothing, at least not from anything physical, or visible. The writer makes an absolutely stupendous claim in this short verse."
(from The MacArthur New Testament Commentary, Copyright © Moody Press and John MacArthur, Jr., 1983-2005.)

Hope this helps,

Pastor Mark

Luz, I agree those beings spoken of in those passages were angels.

The Adventists believe there are intelligent beings on other planets just because EGW said so.

Since the Bible IS silent on this I must say I don't know though I do thik God made us SO special to Him that we are the ONLY beings like us in the entire universe. There may be primitive acquatic life in the ocean underneath the ice on Jupiter's moon Europa or primitive acquatic life on Saturn's moon Enceleadus. But I think we are it as far as intelligent like. God made only us in His image, special and precious to Him.

Regarding living on other planets. It was mentioned above that Adventists are the only ones who belive this. I undestand that this is a teachings that Ellen White "barrowed" from Mormon theology. There are many similarities in the early writints of EGW to Joseph Smith and Mormonism.

But Adventists will say it's in the Bible about other beings on other planets. I don't see it ANYWHERE in my Bible. I told them that that verse in Job they are referring to means angels, NOT beings like us. Then they admit at that point that the idea of other beings like us on other worlds actually came from EGW.

Then they'll say, "If you believe in the inspiration of EGW". NO I DON'T thank you.

Good to see you posting on here, Dale. I've enjoyed reading your stuff on the LAM website. Very enlightening.
