Larry you are one sick puppy. You've been watching too many CSI episodes (a body farm might be another option to consider ). Actually I want lifegem to get my ashes and make me into a diamond. That way I will truly have been a "diamond in the rough". Kim |

I would go for mixing my ashes with glass that's been melted to create a one of a kind jewelry piece, maybe like a dog tag that can be worn as a necklace. That way my husband can say I've got him truly tied around the neck. I got the idea from this unique bracelet I got while on vacation (I got to choose both the glass/design and the colored leather strap). |

well I have always wanted to travel so I like the "ashes in the bottle" idea. Or I could go from exhibit to exhibit traveling with "body worlds" although the artist kinda creeps me out.intresting but very creepy. Im sure my family would say "NO" to that idea, but what do I care for Im no longer in need for this broken done model. Dawn |

Cremation for me. I would like my ashes to be thrown into the wind off the cliff near my house. Always wondered what it would be like to fly. Toria |

River, As I mentioned on my previous post on this thread, I would opt for cremation. I would like to add a little bit to that: Last year, one of my closest brothers in the Lord, after a three year battle, died painfully of cancer. Because of the silence of scripture on this topic, this is what my brother wanted done. Several years earlier, his mother was cremated and he cast her ashes to the winds over a wild river in the Olympic Mountains. He asked that we do the same for him. First, we had a "praise service" at a local church where all of us who wanted to, gave testimony, of how he had impacted our lives. It was a time of tears and joy. The next day, all of those who were really close to him met for breakfast. Then we went into the mountains and his widow spread his ashes over the same spot where his mother's were cast. We held his widow while she cried deeply and long. But, there is great joy knowing he is in the arms of his Savior. Now that a year has past, his widow has been able to move on and her smiles are coming back. During his time of fighting the cancer, I spent some time in the hospital, myself, having a major surgery. He and his wife took me there and stayed until I came out of recovery. I will never forget the comfort of seeing their smiles, knowing that he was dealing with pains far beyond what I was going through. The love of Jesus was real in his life and his concern for me was greater than his own personal troubles. Just writing this is bringing me to major tears just now, so I am going to have to stop. Blessings to all when you come face to face with times such as this. Our Lord is greater than any pain we may experience. Phil |

Cremation for me as well. I want my ashes to be sprinkled on the lake at my cottage - it is the closest thing to heaven that I have on earth. Blessed |

Oh, Larry...I have tears running down my face reading your posts! As a nurse, I have a warped sense of humor and could picture so many of your descriptions! I don't care how I am "disposed of". To be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord! I have a pair of cemetery lots a few feet from where my dad is buried (my mom doesn't believe in cremation but she is not SDA). I bought them because that section is where most of my family is buried and it was the last lot open. Made my mother happy! When I was a teenager I read a fascinating book called "The American Way of Death". It really opened my eyes to the funeral industry and how they prey on the grief of families to spend thousands of dollars to put their loved ones away. It used to be that you had to be embalmed in order to be creamated, so it wasn't a lot cheaper to go that route. That may have changed now, though. There are some states that will allow no embalming if there is immediate interment (such as cremation). I want no embalming, a party by the ones who loved me, and placed in the cheapest pine box with no embellishments and my husband and family to enjoy the insurance money and remember me as I was in life, not death, so no open casket. Of course, it probably won't happen that way *sigh*. Susan |

My brother insisted our mother be cremated and I heartily agreed. There was a funeral, she was embalmed, open casket, so many relatives and so many great memories. She lay in a lace dress I had made for her years ago, in a simple flocked pine box that would burn quickly. Part of her ashes are with my father buried up north, some are with my brother and some in a small silver trinket box on my book shelf. I know that part of the ashes could be pine box, some lace dress and MAYBE some of body. SHE is not with me -- SHE is where GOD wants her to be. I am content with that. My husband and I are signed up with ScienceCare, a company that will take our bodies when they are dead, use them for parts and/or science/medical information, cremate what is left and either give the ashes to whoever wants them or dispose of them at no cost to us or our family. Everyone in the family knows this, so no surprises. We'll never need this old wrinkled flesh any more, so no problem and maybe some help. I've thoroughly "enjoyed" this "WAKE!" Have learned a lot more than I knew before in my 80 years and six generations of SDAism. My brother is still imprisoned in "SDAism" but I think his older son is breaking out slowly and the other son had already made the break before we did. (Both have their doctorates from LLU.) Thank you all for your input. Will have to really review what y'all have been saying. Colleen, the LORD is certainly blessing you as you "referee" all these ideas. As I've "lurked," I've learned to love each one of you. Bless you as you continue to learn and discuss!! I'm so glad we can do it NOW that we're FREE in Christ!! Love to ALL!!! Qweary |
