I meant no personal offense to anyone by my above post. I had just finally had it with all the things that different people have said about me being "extreme" or "exaggerating" things, etc. Jeremy |

EGW did seem to give Satan more credit than he deserves though, I'll give you that. I think a lot of it was she was just so "off her rocker" she didn't know truth from error. And then there's all the vinegar she used which had alcohol in it in those days. |

Yes, Jeremy, I am sorry about your feelings of frustrations. You seem to be taking a bum wrap for saying what Ellen White really is/was. I am sending you this note as an expression of encouragment to you. It is hard for us to deal with truth sometimes. Steer the course. By the way has any one been listening to John McArthur's latest series about false prophets and false teaching? http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Grace_to_You/archives.asp?bcd=7/13/2007 http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Grace_to_You/archives.asp?bcd=7/16/2007 http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Grace_to_You/archives.asp?bcd=7/17/2007 http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Grace_to_You/archives.asp?bcd=7/18/2007 Erma |

"his satanic majesty" is a frightening term that I can not imagine anyone who loves God using to actually address Satan as Ellen did. I am dumbfounded. She was a sick, sick lady... You need to read Syndney Cleveland's book, Whitewashed. http://www.ratzlaf.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1001721445 There it talks about the smell of roses, soft white lights, and actual out-of-body experiences and other occult phenomenom that Ellen White described. There is also a chapter about that "handsome young man" that accompanied her for so many years. It is freaky. Jeremy, I noticed that you also elaborated on this at http://64.226.233.122/discus/messages/5369/2825.html?36897 Gilbert Jorgensen |

Thanks, Erma--I really appreciate your encouraging post. I haven't heard John MacArthur's series, but I think I might check it out. Thanks for the heads up. Gilbert, you're right, it is freaky. Jeremy |

Jeremy, I am not condemning you. EGW does give satan more credit that he deserves and she, having a brain injury, was taken advantage of by her husband and satan. You can have your opinion and I will have mine and let us agree to disagree. I am still learning about EGW and what happened to her in her life time that made her the way she was. But I am spending more time on learning about Jesus. That is more important to me. I thank you for digging up all the sayings that she wrote and all the other things you have done about EGW. I just do not want to do it. When I go on on EGW site, I get a weird feeling in my spine, So I leave them alone. Jeremy, you are loved and appreciated, even when I do not agree with you. Diana |

Jeremy, Please link to the references about EGW using the term "Satanic Majesty". I want to understand from where you are coming. Diana |

Hi Diana, I know what you mean--I don't like it when I have to deal with EGW, either! I quoted one of the times EGW uses that phrase in my second post on this thread, above. And in the first post, I was quoting the EGW quote that Gilbert had posted earlier on this thread from Early Writings page 264. If you want to read other places where she used that phrase, you can go to http://egwdatabase.whiteestate.org/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates$fn=default.htm$vid=default and click on "Full Text Search"--if you put in the phrase "satanic majesty" (using quotation marks) you will get 53 results (when I search on the cd-rom of EGW's published writings I get 56 results). I'm not sure if this is what you wanted when you said: "Please link to the references about EGW using the term 'Satanic Majesty'." If you meant the Google search that I posted, that was just to see other people besides EGW who have used the phrase "his satanic majesty"--it wasn't for references directly about EGW. Jeremy, You gave me what I asked for. I looked at the other information and am not ready to investigate it yet. Thanks again. Diana |

I wonder if "satanic majesty" was a common term of the 1800's. In looking through the Google search supplied by Jeremy, I found this quote: quote:[From the Catholic Mirror of Sept. 16, 1893.] When his satanic majesty, who was "a murder from the beginning," "and the father of lies," undertook to open the eyes of our first mother, Eve, by stimulating her ambition, "You shall be as gods, knowing good and evil," his action was but the first of many plausible and successful efforts employed later, in the seduction of millions of her children. Like Eve, they learn too late, alas! the value of the inducements held out to allure her weak children from allegiance to God. Nor does the subject matter of this discussion form an exception to the usual tactics of his sable majesty. Over three centuries since, he plausibly represented to a large number of discontented and ambitious Christians the bright prospect of the successful inauguration of a "new departure," by the abandonment of the Church instituted by the Son of God, as their teacher, and the assumption of a new teacher — the Bible alone — as their newly fledged oracle. The sagacity of the evil one foresaw but the brilliant success of this maneuver. Nor did the result fall short of his most sanguine expectations. A bold and adventurous spirit was alone needed to head the expedition. Him his satanic majesty soon found in the apostate monk, Luther, who himself repeatedly testifies to the close familiarity that existed between his master and himself, in his "Table talk," and other works published in 1558, at Wittenberg, under the inspection of Melancthon. His colloquies with Satan on various occasions, are testified to by Luther himself — a witness worthy of all credibility. What the agency of the serpent tended so effectually to achieve in the garden, the agency of Luther achieved in the Christian world. This is the same Catholic Mirror that SDA's love to use to prove that Catholics agree SDA's are correct in keeping the seventh-day Sabbath. Here's another quote from an 1894 newspaper, where a Presbyterian minister uses the term: quote:1894: York County Sunday paper condemned Pastors mount pulpits to decry publication of the county's first Sunday paper. "The Sunday Gazette Denounced in Many Pulpits," The York Gazette reported. "All Sunday desecration is planned by Satan," the Rev. Charles A. Oliver of York's Westminster Presbyterian Church proclaimed. "He planned the Sunday newspaper and inspired it. His ways are cunning and many men who think they are doing good are being duped by his Satanic majesty." The York Gazette discontinued its Sunday edition in 1909. County homes were without a locally oriented Sunday paper until Lancaster Newspapers Inc. began publishing the York Sunday News in 1948. http://www.ydr.com/ntbf/ci_4336803

I honestly don't think EGW MEANT to praise Satan with that "satanic majesty" thing. She may have been manipulated by Satan and her husband and others but I still don't think she was, herself evil. She was brain-damaged, psychiatrically ill, and ignorant and I think those things were largely responsible. |

Still Reb, you gotta ask: 1. Who is the father of all manipulation (by Satan)? 2. Who is the father of all brain damage? 3. Who is the father of all psychiatric illness? 4. Who is the father of all ignorance? 5. Who is the father of all Bible contradictions? 6. Who is the father of all "she didn't know truth from error"? 7. Who is the father of all "false teaching"? 8. Who is the father of all freakishness and distortion? 9. and many others... Ask yourself this: Did Balaams donkey have a balanced brain? Did this donkey ever take Hebrew language lessons so that he might speak Hebrew clearly when the time came? Was young Samuel just too young to have told Eli EVERYTHING the Lord had told him? Now, was Ellen just too damaged to have gotten it right? Or was she being used by another agency than God? In her writings, Ellen distorts the character and will of God. Who is the father of all that? |
