This morning my SDA wife asked me, a Seventh Day Baptist "Babylonian" a question about the Bible.
And she was satisfied with my answer.

What's up with this?

Praise God! Our natural tendency is to resist change -- at least until we feel safe with a new perspective. In my opinion, it shows that the Holy Spirit is definitely working through you, and that she is willing to listen.

My experience has been much the same. I just try to maintain a consistency to my spiritual walk, as new truths are unfolded to me, and I de-junk all the Adventist twisted beliefs that I grew up on. My wife even attends church each week with me -- and this past week decided to start participating in the brass ensemble that plays each week at the Baptist Church I attend. While she reacts negatively to sources that criticize Adventism, she is starting to see that Christianity does exist outside of the Adventist "ark of safety", and that many of Ellen White's dietary recommendations were not so inspired after all. The Holy Spirit will guide you on how much to say in respect to SDA falsehoods. My wife was very receptive to Desmond Ford's logical style of writing in articles on his website relating to 1844, and the mythical Investigative Judgment -- especially when juxtaposed with the utter nonsense of Ellen White's description in Early Writings, p 56-57.

[See http://www.nisbett.com/reference/ew/ew1.htm and search for the heading, End of the 2300 Days. The part about Satan entering the holy place in the "heavenly sanctuary" when the Father and the Son both leave in their chariots is totally bizarre! Her hallucinations were rampant in Early Writings! When I used to attend the local SDA church I would bring Early Writings with me and read that passage to everyone who was the least bit receptive. They would roll their eyes in disbelief!]
[Desmond Ford's 1844 papers are at http://www.goodnewsunlimited.org/library/atodayinterview/intro.cfm. I should also note that according to his website, he renounced his Adventist membership and applied for a teaching position at the Baptist theological seminary.]

Doing everything I can to integrate her into the social fabric of the church that I attend has been important. That starts with just getting her to accompany you in worship God each week.

Thanks, Gilbert that is very good advice.

River, the question she asked was about John the Baptist if he was one of the disciples and what happened to him.

My answer was that John the Baptist was not one of the disciples his mission was to prepare people for the coming of Jesus. He was beheaded by Herod because Herod's wife was angered that John the Baptist pointed out the immorality of her being with Herod. Herod's stepdaughter Salome did a dance that plase Herod and he offered her anything, she went to her mother who asked for John the Baptist's head on a platter.
Herod didn't really want to do this but felt he was bound by his word.

I explained that John the Baptist's mission was to prepare the way for Jesus, the disciple's was to spread the Good News about what Jesus has done.

It wasn't a deep theological question but hey, I was happy she asked me.

Reb, what if you and your wife read chapters of the NT each night? Would she be interested in that? That might be a fun thing for you two to share.

Let me tell you, as a woman, when my husband shows leadership it thrills me.

Even though many of us are "formers", we still all have diverse backgrounds. There seems to be no exact formula or recipe for leaving the evil of adventism. It hit me recently that God does not want there to be any 1-2-3 formula that would circumvent the faith process, so He delights in recreating each and every individual according to His will and fancy, and this shows how ultra powerful He is. Plus He can do it all at once or one at a time from trillions of miles away if He wants to. We will all have different experiences and modalities coming out of the beast and all we can hope to do besides giving God the glory is compare our puny notes with each other!

Larry, I fully agree with what you say above. God found each of us where we were and brought us to him. He started with me by putting me in a 12 step program to learn how much He loves me. That I found amazing, when I realized it. So, I give Him all the Glory and Honor as we compare notes.
He is always awesome.
