My wife seems to be accepting my transitioning out of Adventism at this point better than I had expected. Though yesterday morning she told me to really read Daniel and Revelation all the way through. Of course I know that Adventists twist Daniel and twist and add to Revelation and I am busy learning about the Gospel for the first time I really don't want to go through Daniel and Revelation at this time. There has been so much in the Gospels and the writings of Paul that I was never directed to study as an Adventist. (In fact it seems Adventists igonre MOST of what Paul wrote) Why is ti that Adventists put SO MUCH emphasis on their twisted unterpretations of Daniel and Revelation and ignore the Gospels and writings of Paul. Is it because EGW so flagrantly counterdicts the Gospels and Paul that if Adventists studied those in depth they would see Advetism is false? I'm still on vacation in Michigan and I have to attend the SDA church in Battle Creek this morning with my wife. I brought up the idea of going to the nearby SDB Church instead but she wouldn't have it( becuase SDBs eat pork). I think I will keep score this morning how many times the pastor mentions EGW vs. how many times Jesus Christ is mentioned. I was actually hoping she would sleep in 'till noon today so we would miss SDA church. LOL (Message edited by Reb on June 16, 2007) |

Reb, tell your wife to compare Early Writings pages 18 and 19 with what Revelation 21:22 says. Fair is fair, and if she wants you to read Daniel into Revelation, then reciprocity is fair game! She should also have to do a little reading. Basically, Early Writings page 18 describes a vision where EGW sees the New Jerusalem settling upon the earth. Then the crowd she is with gets all curious and starts looking around. Page 19 has the real gem, for she discovers a beautiful temple in the City. Here are direct quotes: "on the mount was a glorious temple" "all kinds of trees around the temple" "This temple was supported by seven pillars" "After we beheld the glory of the temple, we went out" Now have her read Revelation 21:22 where John says he saw no temple, because God and the Savior ARE the temple! Then have her understand what Revelation 22:18,19 means about anyone (including the sda 'prophet') that adds or subtracts from this book. Ask your wife if God would send a 'prophet' a vision that contradicted Revelation. Ask your wife if the devil could send a 'prophet' a vision that contradicted Revelation. In light of this, ask your wife whether the 'prophet' might end up in the lake of fire, as promised. You asked why sda's put lots of emphasis on twisted interpretations of Daniel and Revelation while ignoring the true gospel. My answer is that the devil has a claim on this organization, not God. They will read the 'prophets' words, then go to the bible and try to find verses to support her theories. I hope you wife is not trying to be a spiritual authority over you. |

Ask you wife to read John then the other gospels without any other book. She should read John first because it explains so well the love God has for us humans. It was the reading of the gospels and the NT that convinced me not to rejoin the SDA church. I hope and pray she reads the Bible. Diana |

Hi Reb, I'm guessing that she wants you to read Dan & Rev because of the IJ, right? It's interesting to note that the prophecy in Daniel (Dan 8:13-14) that talks about the cleansing of the sanctuary has already been fulfilled, even before Jesus was born! In fact, the whole reason for Hanukah is in part to celebrate the cleansing and re-dedication by the Maccabees in 165 BC. As far as I know, you can't fulfill a prophecy twice. Or, at least you can't take ownership of a prophecy that's been fulfilled and change it into something else. This info is easy to look up, and I'm sure you can even ask a Rabbi about it. The Bible says that even Jesus observed the (Hanukah) feast in John 10:22. This is kind of beside the point, but something to keep in mind. I like what Larry and Diana suggested. It's true, Jesus is the temple, and the Sabbath. Hang in there! My prayers are that your wife will thank you later. Leigh Anne Btw, I have a great article on Hanukah by a Jewish/Christian preacher. If you'd like to look at it sometime I'll send it to you. (Message edited by grace_alone on June 16, 2007) |

Reb, my wife has been EXTREMELY supportive of my choice to leave Adventism. She is having a rocky time at the church she attends and has started to attend a more liberal SDA church. She did attend the Messianic Jewish Congregation where I now attend and enjoyed the services very much. The Rabbi there said that I planted the seed now it is up to my wife to nurture it or let it die. |

The Adventist interpretation of Daniel and Revelation are the heart of the IJ and the "great controversy" idea. Also. the "three angels' messages" are in Revelation 14. Of course, without Ellen one would never come up with the Adventist understandings of these things, but I'm sure this Adventist assumption is why your wife wants you to read them. When Adventists read these books, they "see" what Ellen says about them. Colleen |

My wife will not attend any non SDA church at this point. She is at least grudgingly accepting my switching to be a Seventh Day Baptist and I am greatful for that. On the way to the Battle Creek Tabernacle yesterday I just honestly told her that I will not disturb her beliefs or try to convert her but I honestly prefer the SDB Church, I get spiritually fed there and I am much happier and more peace since I have been going there(and she admits she even notices that). Now please remember that she really loves me and her main beef with what I am doing is she is afraid that I am now "lost" and she loves me and doesn't want me to be "lost". She then told me that much that she is afriad that I am now "lost" the Seventh Day Baptists are wrong because even though they keep the Sabbath they don't keep the Levitical food laws and they don't do footwashing at communion(this is a new thing she just brought up yesterday). I tried to explain how can I be lost when I beleive in and love Jesus Christ MORE than I ever have now. And she said that my whole reason for leaving the SDA church is my beiing traumatised by the Sunday Law teaching she said she doesn't believe in it either and why don't I just ignore that and other things in the SDA church that are wrong and why can't I just ignore EGW and still be an SDA? When we got the the BC tabernacle the sermon was standard SDA nonsense, EGW was quoted liberally.(WHY isn't the Bible sufficient for them?) and it was basically about Deurteronomy and how we have to obtain the character of God in ourselves.(perfectionism). Even veiled refernces to the IJ it was just horried I can't stand SDA sermons anymore. Excuse me but isn't it impossible for us to have the character of God? We are NOT and can NEVER be him? Please try to understand where my wife is coming from. It is only out of love for me that she has these concerns. SHe is truly a wonderful person and as good of a Christian as an Adventist can be. At least progress has been made as I have made no bones about my continuing to attend SDB Church and I am standing on it and she is at least accepting it. |

I found that as I was leaving Adventism that the two most important things to them are: 1. The Sabbath, and 2. Their unique view of D&R In fact, when I was discussing the fact that Hebrews teaches that Jesus was sacrifice 'once for all' and that He now sits on the right hand of the Father until His enemies are made His footstool (how much plainer could Paul make it?), the pastor told me that the error in my thinking was that I was interpreting Daniel through Hebrews. What I had to do was interpret Hebrews through the book of Daniel. Apparently he had a similar struggle when Des Ford was big and the only way he could resolve the apparent disconnect between how Adventism saw Jesus role and how it was stated in Hebrews was to allow Hebrews to be uderstood through Daniel. What a sad piece of exegesis! But then again, I was there for years before God removed the scales from my eyes, so I find it hard to be harshly critical eventhough I find it extremely frustrating to deal with it now. ISO |

ISO--very interesting, bold statement by your former pastor in Adventism. It is very frustrating, and indeed, it is a miracle of God when an Adventist finally sees. This process is in His hands. Colleen |
