Colleen, you make me laugh...grits and possum...or was that postum.

Why do I keep thinking of Jed, Granny and Elly-mae. Takes me down memory lane.

I enjoy the fun you all share.

RandyG,

No, not postum, possum, opossum to you cave dwellers.
To me it's possum, grits and sweet taters.

Jed, granny and Elly-mae is a great parody of the real thing.
I was raised on a mountain top of 300 acres, it was two miles to the mail box.

At the risk of getting Un-sanctified, since you guys and gals have finally lightened up a bit I will give you some definitions.

Definitions

Orkinsow: Arkansas
Country music: too many beans.
Country music: Singing in the out house.
Sunday dress: Dress made from flour sacks with flower in the print.
White dress: Dress made from flour sacks with no print.
Horse Collar: wearing a neck tie “fer weddins n sich”.
Youins: yawl.
Yawl: Youins.
Country baseball: Batting dried horse manure on Sunday afternoon.
Staid up late: Listening to grand ol opry till the old man comes in and yells “turn that contraption off!”
Band: A fiddle with three strings, a broken banjo and a busted guitar.
Shindig: Stumbled on the steps from too much white lighting.
Ataireuzfershore: That was the truth.
Gitten up time: Still dark. Typical answer, Oh Noooo!
Shower: Rain.
Bath: Bathing in a wash tub in your brother’s dirty water.
Privileged: First in the tub.
Shorts: Hog feed.
Shaazam: Whacked with a cooking spoon for stealing biscuits.
Git: After getting whacked for said biscuit.
Killachicken: Preachers coming to dinner.
takeatararntoye: Tire iron, weapon of choice, threat, with anything at hand.
Now at risk of being forever banded from the forum, I’ll quit.

Hey Dianna,
Have a great time down there at Little Rock Girl! Guess you will take the DFW route, last time I went I went from PDX to Denver and then from there to L.R. really made the trip more enjoyable as it cut the trip right in half and only 40 minutes at Denver.

I have a friend in Cheyenne I would like to see but somebody has to warm this office chair.
I have company coming from the East this week end for a weeks stay, I had reservations for hotels for Monday but had to cancel. Oh well, looking forward to the company. Hope you trip goes well and also return trip to Lost Wages.

River, in case you didn't get Randy's humor, I thought I would let you know that Postum is "Adventist coffee." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postum

Then again, you may have already known that--it was hard for me to tell. :-)

Jeremy, I didn't know it was termed 'Adventist coffee' although I knew what it was, my Mom used to drink it and I tried it one time and went "Plooyyee", my Mom got the over spray.

No wonder it was termed 'Adventist coffee' it was invented by an Adventist, thanks for that link, I got a big kick out of it. I didn't realize there was enough interest to put it in Wikikpedia. Now I is feelin so educated.
When I learned that I looked around the room for someone handing out diplomas.

As you can see Jonvil was right, I am one disturbed individual and it takes little to keep me entertained.

It's just such a crack-up, they make coffee that ain't coffee, meat that ain't meat, but they make it to look like it, they make their religion to look like the real thing, are you sure Adventist are even real? You guys just might be a figment of my imagination and there might not even be a keyboard here and the monitor maybe the wall.

I am losing hold on reality, Heeeelp.
My mind is going Dave, Dave, my mind is going.

River, actually I just came up with the term "Adventist coffee" to describe it--I don't know that it's a common term for it. I just meant that it's the SDAs' coffee substitute. (They also sell other coffee substitutes in their Adventist Book Centers.)

You're right, River, they have counterfeit everything!

In their "ABC" stores, you can buy fake coffee, fake meats, fake bibles, fake prophet writings, fake spiritual food...

And under a more serious note, a friend of mine who I speak with almost daily was all upset this morning as usual babbling on about troublous times, Sunday laws and E.G.W. he is always worked up. Has no sense of rest over Sunday laws and persecution being just around the corner and how we must prepare for it. He is really a kind and tender hearted gentleman but Adventism really has him messed up. No rest ever does he seem to have.
What a hell it must be to have no confidence in Gods power to keep us no matter what. To hear him all twisted up inside and no peace in Jesus does effects me considerably.

The church he turns to actually keep him at arms length to the one that can provide that peace.
I make jokes just to retain my own equilibrium to deal with it yet again tomorrow or the next day. A few minutes off the subject does help at times.

But there are serious things going on and I really want you to know that I am serious.
In Christ

"If SDAs use 1Tim 2:9 but ignore 1Tim 2:8 & 12, could this be considered ‘proof texting’ and out of context or are the ignored texts equally valid in today’s church?" Jonvil

Yes they are equally valid today, of course we should not use them as proof texts, but make a sound exegesis of them.

Men should not lift their hands in anger and that deceived woman should not teach her husband heresy . But learn the Word of God in silence, then she can go on teaching, when she knows the truth.
Much more on these verses here: http://strivetoenter.com/wim

May the Lord open our eyes for the Wonders of His Word.

Martin

River, they also make veggie pork rinds and all other "fake" foods. When I still worked at the GC several of us were talking about this, and we started to get silly. I suggested veggie Pot, veggie Crack, veggie Heroin, etc. One of my former co-workers had to have open heart surgurery in his mid 30's due to all that sodium in the veggie food.

Growing up we called the veggie stuff "fake stake".
Just thought I would share that with y'all.
