Daily, I recieve an email devotional from missionaries who are serving the Lord in Israel. Since I tend to be more of a talker than a doer, todays message gave me pause to consider my own service to the Lord and I thought it would be good to share. If you wish to know where this came from, do a Google search for "Worthy Ministries":

Phillip, what are you doing??

James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

An old mountaineer and his wife who were sitting in front of the fireplace one evening just whiling away the time. After a long silence, the wife said: "Jed, I think it's raining. Get up and to outside and see." The old mountaineer continued to gaze into the fire for a second, sighed, then said, "Aw, Ma, why don't we just call in the dog and see if he's wet."

Uggghhh! We're so lazy sometimes! One thing that has really been on our hearts recently is doing more doing and less talking about doing! God want's us to be doers not talkers.

Phillip, God has a specific purpose for our lives at such a time as this. Let's start giving Him our all. There's so much work to be done!

Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

George, Rivka and Elianna Whitten

Phillip, thank you for sharing this devotional. It's a great example of the ennui that can take us out of useful service.

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10).

Phillip,
When God directed me to join the church I am at, I felt like I had come home the first time I entered it and sat down. I was baptized there and immediately started volunteering. God gives all kinds of opportunity to serve Him. It is so good to know I volunteer to serve Him and not to earn salvation. It is such a joy.
I never, ever, in my life as an SDA volunteered like I do at this church. The whole atmosphere is different. I know I am serving God.
