Just a word of caution about Robert Brinsmead's theories. For example, his aberrant views about Scripture not being "God-breathed" made him eventually into a non-believer. Once we assault or doubt the ultimate Author of Scripture, we have lost our connection with heaven--either temporarily or permanently. Indeed, the Bible is God's voice speaking to us! The greatest adventures are experienced in the soul of man, not across oceans and deserts. I wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion of Dwight L. Moody: "I know the Bible is inspired because it inspires me."

Welcome to FAF. Let us know more about your journey with Jesus Christ, when you are able to do so. I always like to see a new face as I know it is probable another sadventist who is in the process/has left the SDA church.

Adventists and belly buttons-you got innies and you got outies-I’m an inny. Been one for 1,820 Sabbaths-but who’s counting.
Greetings from a lurker (I feel that I should be wearing a trench coat). I’ve been a member of the SDA denomination for 35 years and am still currently attending. I came from a Godless background-not antagonistic-just a non-topic, like discussing the tooth fairy. I married a second generation Adventist and a few years later attended an SDA evangelistic meeting in Bay City, MI. During the study on Daniel I had an epiphany-GOD existed!!! I was baptized-not because I understood my condition and my great need of a savior but because GOD EXISTED.
I accepted the Sabbath (I had never attended any other church so I had nothing to compare the Sabbath to) without any study on my part-it was sort of like-Duh….OK.
When a couple of the ladies from the church came to my house and were rather insulting about those who ate meat I challenged them to show me in the Bible where eating meat was forbidden-the subject never came up again. I quit eating pork out of deference to my wife. Mostly veggie but enjoy fried chicken, fish and kosher dogs. I’m a believer in moderation-too much of anything can be harmful (I do see a lot of overweight vegetarians).
The writings of EGW were pushed a lot so I went out and bought a bunch of books. I read the five red books almost immediately. My ignorance of the scriptures prevented me from seeing anything wrong so I accepted them without reservation. Bought the testimonies and immediately detested them. To me they were filled with darkness. I could not read them and eventually gave them away. (I should have burned them)
Very early in my study of the scriptures I grasped (dimly) the concept of righteousness by faith and found that I was at odds with the membership. From the very beginning I ‘felt’ this dissonance between what the bible taught and what the church members believed/practiced. It has taken me many years to realize that this problem was not a local anomaly but a church wide denominational problem. Over the last few years the dissonance has increased, now it has become unbearable. I’ve been on the net many hours reading all those sites that show the other side of the story and have concluded there ain’t no fixin the problem. I’m attending only for the sake of my spouse of 37 years. There is no way my wife could ever repudiate EGW and the Sabbath is very much an essential to salvation. I can ignore EGW and ‘keeping’ the Sabbath is not a hardship, (except all community get togethers are on a Saturday which isolates me from my neighbors) it’s the absolute lack of spirituality in the church that is draining me dry. I teach SS and am constantly introducing the centrality of Jesus, God’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit. By the lack of response I’m either speaking in tongues and need a translator or every one became deaf. Aaargh!
In the scope of eternity my ‘trials’ are of no significance so I maintain my sense of humor and will continue to agitate the brethren-

John, with God nothing is impossible. Start praying for your wife that God will lift the veil, and will set her free. There is much hope in this forum! I still can't get over Dennis' story of leaving after many many years.

Jonvil, You gave me a good laugh when I read about CARM. When I write on there I ask God to tell me what to say. It may be like swimming with sharks, but God is my cage and they cannot get through Him.
I am glad you are here. I will pray for your wife. There is hope for her. I was born and raised SDA, graduated from Loma Linda University. At age 63 God opened my eyes and the veil came off my mind and eyes and I clearly saw God. It can happen to your wife. I know we will all pray for her along with you.
God is so awesome.

I forgot to add, keep on teaching Jesus Christ, His grace and the work of the Holy Spirit. That is the Gospel that Jesus wants us to preach and teach.
Father in Heaven, You are the I AM, the Alpha and Omega. Yet because of Jesus we can call you Father. I bring Jonvil and his wife to you at this time. You have lifted the veil off his mind and eyes, now do that for his wife. Be with him that he will be the loving husband that you want him to be. Hold them both in your awesome hands and bring both of them to you all the way. Thank you for doing that God. You are always AWESOME.

Thanks again-I feed my wife small bits of information-such as the IJ and conditional atonement. She was very threatened by any questioning of the 1844 event. After 5 or 6 conversations she had to agreed that conditional atonement was unbiblical but still clings to the 'package'-it's going to take many baby steps.

A baby takes steps, falls, crawls a bit, gets up and tries again. So do not be surprised it you wife goes back to her beliefs for a while before she takes another step. God is working on her and we will keep praying because God is so awesome.

Welcome Jonvil, may God, Jesus Christ bless you and use you mightily! Nothing is impossible to God, he can even reaveal the truth about EGW and the SDA organization to your wife. John, I can so relate to your story.
I am still attending SDA church only for my wife of 16 years who is very SDA.(I converted for her).
However, I can no longer stand the lack of spirituality and the denial of the Gospel in the SDA church. I like you do not have a problem with the Sabbath. I am transitioning into the Seventh Day Baptist Church which lacks EGW and has the Gospel. My wife is accepting this better than if I picked a Sunday Church(though I do not think there is anything wrong with worshipping God on Sunday, we should worship Him everyday!). I do eat pork now I just don't do it in front of my wife. |
