Not sure if anyone has seen these links before, but they are President Bush and Hilary Clinton acknowledging the SDA Church's 150th anniversary. I am not sure when the celebration took place, but it looks like the clips were put up on January 10th of this year. Looks like the Adventist "propoganda machine" is alive and well. You don't really believe they wrote these speeches themselves do you? "Hillary" even worked Sabbath observance in. What I find interesting are the posts, especially the ones under Bush's segment. It really says so much. Most of the people posting are Adventists (proudly stating it). There is a discussion about whether duck is clean or not clean, whether this is just another "signs of the times" for a Sunday Law to be passed, what will this persecution "look like" when it happens, etc. Then what I found most interesting was a post by an Adventist who states a disclaimer to non-SDAs saying that most true SDAs don't believe in the Sunday Law and that this idea is promoted mostly by the fringe fanatic outliers of SDAism. Huh? What church does he belong to? Then there is a post by someone who says they are SDA, but doesn't go to church much, although "you can still follow it's teachings". Again, the responses to the videos by members of the Adventist church says so much... Grace | ||

I don't know how they're doing recently, but back in the late 1800s the Adventist church was very big on freedom of religion because of the Sabbath issue. I believe A.T. Jones even went to Congress in order to fight some Sunday no-labor laws that had sprung up in some places around the country. Traditionally perhaps Adventism has been keen on religious liberty for the Sabbath's sake---the idea being that it's a kind of safeguard to prolong the arrival of the Sunday "Blue" law (why is it "blue"??). I remember some people saying that they would only vote for Democrats, because the Sunday law would most likely come through the Republican party. On the other hand, recently with all the political situation & the war and what-not, I found many Adventists (even super-conservative ones) supporting the Republican party very rigidly, and passing around those forwards about morality in America and about there never actually being any "separation between church and state", etc. It was kind of astounding, actually. As Christianity became more political, Adventism went along with it. The "Sabbath" and "End Times" beliefs were supposed to be a safeguard to help see clearly in the last days, but when the barometer rose on these occasions, the alarm bells didn't go off so much. I believe that is partly because political Christianity has made most of its case with Law -- which Adventism stakes itself on as well. | ||

At the church I used to attend in VA the ss teacher liked Bush's stand on abortion. So did some of the other members. At the time I was a pro-life person. Thank you God for changing me. Diana | ||

There are pro-life people scattered throughout Adventism though the church itself took a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time in making even an 'unofficial' statement on the topic, and, last I knew Loma Linda requires all it's medical students to help perform an abortion before graduating as an MD. | ||

Yes, that is what I meant to write. He was very mcuh against abortion as were some of the members. He is not a doctor. He is a lawyer and works with some right to work organization in VA. He gets sents all over the US with his work. Diana | ||

I mixed up the terminology. I used to be all for abortion. God got a hold of me and changed me to be against it. I used to use the words pro life to mean I was for a good quality of life for the mother and the child if it was wanted. Sorry for the mix up. Diana | ||
