I stumbled on the internet on a little video file, in which John Piper asks the question "Why did God decide to save us through faith?", and answers it in a beautiful way. I took some time to make a partial transcript of what he said, the link is http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6732959620963588379 I heartily recommend you to watch the video, it's 3 minutes long, because he manifests such a joy in what he's saying Here's my transcript,
quote:How do you receive salvation wrought by Jesus Christ, on the cross in the resurrection, how do you receive it, so that it is yours, so that there’s no condemnation though we have offended His glory every day of our lives? How do you receive that? And the answer in Romans is, „By faith alone”. Faith, like a little child. Why did God decide to do it that way? Romans 4:20 He is using Abraham as a model. He was before Christ and we are supposed to read him now, and learn to do what he did it after Christ, taking Christ as the object of our faith. Here is what is says about Abraham, Romans 4:20 „No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God” (which are all bought by Jesus, and filled with Jesus) , „but he grew strong in his faith”, then literally „giving glory to God”. The reason God has ordained, there is probably more than this reason, but let us say, a key reason that God has ordained for you to be saved by faith alone is that because when you believe He is glorified. Do you see that? Believing Him, receiving as a little one, puts me in a weak position, Him in a strong position. I’m the needy one, He’s the rich one. I’m the foolish one, He’s the wise one. I’m the hungry one, He’s got the bread. I’m the thirsty one, He’s got the water. Faith is empty. And He is full. That’s why He did it this way. It’s the best news in all the world that we only have to be empty to be saved. Who can not be weak, who can not be empty? It is not hard to be saved, unless you want to be God: full, strong, self-sufficient. It’s so beautiful, the way of salvation by grace through faith is so wonderful, IF you’re willing to let God be God.

Thank you, Jackob! What a wonderful video. As Richard just said about what Piper preached, That's such a good way to put it; being saved is about us being EMPTY and God having the food, the water, the strength, the power. When you look at it this way, it makes it even more obvious that if we add anything—even as a sign that we are saved ("I keep Sabbath to show that I accept Jesus...") we are not letting Jesus be everything. We're taking some of the "credit". Dale Ratzlaff introudced us to John Piper about seven years ago, and I still think he's one of the most profound preachers and authors alive today. Colleen |

WOW!!!! I have never heard faith spoken of like J. Piper has. "Faith is empty, and God has water, food, whatever we need to fill us." Thank you God. This is so awesome. Diana |
