I know many of you are familiar with my hunt for a church after I relocated to Illinois. For anyone who would like to hear the closure of the matter, here's the wrap up info. The final clincher between my top two churches was when one church attempted to teach tithing using texts out of context, to say nothing of the texts being straight from the Old Covenant. On the other hand, my non-denominational church started a series on Ephesians going verse by verse through the book. Their approach is to explain briefly different viewpoints of controversial passages. But overall, they keep Jesus the focus. Once I decided it was my top candidate I joined an introductory class to learn about the church. Amazingly enough, this is the oldest church in town--founded in 1833 when Abraham Lincoln was still around this area! That's older than Adventism. Yet the church appears very cutting edge because one of their core principles is to embrace change. Another core principle is to be biblically directed and they are serious students of the Bible with many different options of study. Once I got done with the membership class, it was time to start new Sunday School classes. After doing a little checking I joined a class on Leviticus of all things. But this class is teaching Leviticus in light of the cross. It also shows the fulfillment of things within the New Covenant. Awesome how much I'm learning. There was no hesitation on my part about joining due to the simplicity of their statement of beliefs. Not one single thing I couldn't agree with since they keep "the main thing the main thing." Thanks for the prayers that went up in my behalf. Aliza |

Aliza, congratulations! God is faithful, and your sharing has been good for us. I believe that Adventists in particular have a hard time finding a church after they leave. The day is its own problemóadd to that the fear of being deceived and falling prey to wrong beliefsóit's hard to make the transition. Thanks for sharing, Aliza. God is faithful. He knows where each of us needs to be in order to grow in Him. Colleen |

Aliza, I am glad you found a church you can be comfortable with. I am also in a church that I am very comfortable with and that is a real blessing. River |
