I have a new son. I am so grateful to those of you who have faithfully prayed for my son this last year. He went away to a middle school retreat sponsored by my church last weekend, and came back completely changed. His Spirit is definitely alive in Christ.

He is excited about God, getting up early and staying up late reading the word, sharing God with all his classmates at his SDA school, praying in class, etc.

He has always expressed love for the Lord, from a young age. He has had spirtual awakenings in the past. Nothing like this. The word has come alive for him. He is blown away by scripture passages. You all know what I mean, as most of us have experienced this. Ubelievable to watch it in your own child.

He is still at SDA school, still a member of SDA church, active in pathfinders etc., and also attends my church about half the time. He said he is eager to regularly attend middle school group at my church from now on.

He also asked for prayer and recieved prayer regarding divorce impact. (In my church it is not humiliating to go forward for prayer, you are not automatically considered drastically backslidden and needing re-baptism).

My ex-husband made an interesting comment, "All those years of spiritual retreats and campmeetings, camps, camporees, etc., and little impact. Two days with your new church, and he is on fire for God."

Indeed.

God is good, and I am praising Him for awakening my son. He has always been an incredible kid, but how fun to share the excitement of Jesus.

Please continue in prayer for him. I know the enemy would love to steal away whatever he can. Thankfully we are on the winning team. You all are awesome to remember us in prayer and emails of encouragement etc.

Lori,
I am praising God with you as I write. I feel like crying tears of joy for you and your son.
Father in Heaven, Keep this young man in the palm of you hands and never let go of him. As he witnesses to his class mates, may they want to know you also.
Thank you God. You are so awesome.

Yes, Colleen and Diana, God is faithful and awesome, and thank you for always praying for my son.

I forgot one important detail.

The timing in no coincidence, but God's grace. Exactly one year after I prayed for God to replace the spirit of Adventism and religion with His Spirit in me, and made the decision public, He has also redeemed my son.

I had posted a prayer request here on the prayer section, as I was expecting the anniversary of leaving SDA and the trauma that followed, (divorce, church, family and friend estrangement) to be painful. Instead, God gave me more than I could ask or imagine.

You all are amazing prayer warriors! And I have an amazing Abba Father.

Javagirl,

Wonderful news and so glad that you shared! My 17 year old son goes with us to the PCA church we have started attending (with no prompting from us). I think its a girl since he is not especially taken with things religious, but I would rather he attend for some reason than not attend for any reason.

God Bless!

ISO,
So we add him to our prayer list. While he is at church he will hear things that God wants him to hear. He may have already. God is working on him.

I hope my son has such a renewal of spirit someday. Me too, for that matter. ;)

My son is 13. He added SDA schools for grades 2-6. He went to a non-denominational conservative Christian school for grades 7 and 8, and now he's in grade 9 at the high school.

Interestingly to me, he avers that he is NOT an Adventist. He's not much: after a couple tries, he decided to no longer attend Sunday School at my church. I'm afraid that he's caught up in the "If I'm not with the One True Church (SDA) then I am outside a relationship with God" catch-22. That would be terrible.

Or, he could simply be a typical 13-year-old.

He's a great little Bible scholar, so he has little in common with kids who answer the question "In which river was Jesus baptized" with "The Amazon?", "The Seine?", etc. (Yes, I actually got those answers -- I could barely stop laughing, though it showed the 12-year-olds as embarrassingly ill-educated). I recently asked him the names of the three men in the furnace in Daniel. He rattled them off (I couldn't), then explained that those are their Greek names, and their Hebrew names are (rattled off some more).

So I guess it's OK if he skips Sunday School. :-)

Except I would be SO pleased if he was excited about Jesus.

Someday, I pray.

I need to pray for myself, too. My lovely bride goes to her church occasionally, out of a sense of tradition and duty, I think, never for the joy or peace. She won't join me in a Bible study. I'm going to have to manage that part of my life without her, and just keep inviting her in, I guess. I've been away from it too long.

I can't remember if I've mentioned, but we have a four-month-old son!?! Paul. I wanted a Bible name that isn't too common. The place is littered with Matthews and Jacobs these days. Paul is a perfect baby: thriving, very engaging / happy / smiling, sleeps through the night, goes everywhere with us, cries seldom and then with a gentle voice that you hardly mind, just so we know he needs attention. We're so blessed!

Praise God!

Hoyt, I'ts really good to see you back! Thanks for updating us re: the family. I still pray for you and the kids, and I'll pray for your wife to come to know Jesus personally as well.

It's just good to hear from you!

Thanks all--Really Praising God here, as I continue to see an amazing change. My son gave ME a sermonette on the way home from school re John 15! He was reading his bible on the ballfield after school when I picked him up, so that is where the sermon came from.

Typically we would be discussing the Braves or the Hawks, and Im sure we still will, but I was blessed by his understanding of John 15. He really gets the big picture.

ISO, my son did orginally say he didnt mind attending my church because of the cute girls.
Its a start. I am still praying for your wife, how is she?

Praying River, Toria, and all the rest---

Hoyt, I will pray for you and your son and wife. Your son sounds like mine a few months ago. Big things happen when you post prayer requests here!

While praying last night with my son, I prayed for the sons of all those who posteed on this thread. After prayer, I told my son that I had posted about him, and that other parents were asking for prayer. He was excited, (I thought he might be upset or embarassed because of my post)and said he would pray for the other kids to know Jesus.

Im praying for us big kids too, Hoyt!
