Aloha guys,

Well I am officialy NOT an Adventist. My dad said that at the church board meeting last night they did what ever it was that they do to take me off the books. Whatever that means. Anyhow it just feels really good not to be associated with Adventism now. It has taken a long time to get over the hurts that came from Adventism, but with God's help it makes the journey easier. I am a follower of nothing but Jesus Christ. The next big challenge will be helping my parents see that Adventism has some real issues. Those issues are too important to not sit by and be quiet about. My whole family is in the grasp of the spirit of Adventism. My sister the other day was reading some book and I asked her what it was and she said that it is a more simplified versions of "The Great Controversy". I looked at the cover and it wasnt even called that. I told her that it was decieving to go and change the name of someting to go and try to hide the truth of book. My mom is slowly coming around and is thinking hard about leaving Adventism. I can't wait. My dad is very entrenched in the church. It is really sad. Pray for them as it won't be an easy battle but it is one worth fighting for. Thanks guys. Looking forward to the great adventure that is called Life in Jesus Christ. Never done it before... it is going to rock. I AM FREE!!!

Congratulations!

It is freeing to have your name removed from membership in an organization whose beliefs are so different from yours!

You are lucky to know you are off the books. I really don't know if we are off our not.. I know we're not in their phone book anymore. We asked to be removed, but they like the numbers, so am not sure if we have been removed or not.

We just attended a membership meeting at our church. We were very surprised at the huge differences, and the similarities for membership. As I understood it in Adventism, you are automatically a member when you are baptized. In our current church over half are not members... and to be a member there is a rigorous application about your testimony and your current day to day walk with Christ, your beliefs all core beliefs) and about your commitment to involvement in the church. Many people who have key roles are not members... the main difference is that of voting, but the accountability and support seems to be more serious for members. It is all in a healthy frame of reference. We so much appreciate the difference and are glad there are ways of weeding out the "good ole boys" and promised choice seats on the board to the doctor or professor in your area... and saved those for committed growing Christians, assuming nothing of those who attend.

Ikilgore,

Congrats. I remember well writing that letter. It suprised even me that it took about a year for them to respond. I don't think they really cared, it was sort of like the monkeys in Space Odessey 2000 watching the first sucker go up and and take a swat at the monolith - they were at first just happy to watch some fool stand forward. I was glad to do it, and have never looked back. God bless you and your family - good things are in store for all of you, now that you have discovered and approached the Monolith.

Maybe it was Space Odessey 2001. What can I say - I was lost in the 60's and 70's.

It was "2001: A Space Odyssey" is the oddity you speak of.
The screenplay, written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, deals with themes of human evolution and technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life.
Of course Arthur C. Clarke is the father of the Satellite; he is a deep thinker whom, I presume, was not born again at the time the screen play was written. Although I somewhat enjoyed the drums and special effects, the whole movie had a Godless quality about it.
I did really enjoy the 2010: Odyssey Two (1982). My own interest in writing artificial intelligence programming of course making Hal my favorite character in both movies. It is sort of weird remembering those times when I was so taken with the science arts, now it is a drag when it comes time to upgrade my computer, which is today, I will be upgrading to duel core technology and I am not much excited about it. A little but not much.

It was well said in Timothy II 3:7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Ikilgore,
A big congratulations on your name being removed from the SDA books. God is surely leading you and you will have an interesting time. The very good thing about this time is that God is with you every step of the way through his Holy Spirit. That is so awesome.
