A SDA leader once told me that what a person believes about the end times is not crucial because you can't know for sure what will happen because it is prophecy. Has anyone else heard something like that? I heard this from someone who has done Revelation seminars. I was quite befuddled when I heard that. |

The way I always understood SDA's to teach, is that knowing the "truth" about end times as far as SDA's are able to determine it, is essential only in that it will keep a person from being deceived and accidently switching sides. At the same time, it's considered really important to have correct beliefs about all the other doctrines. I've heard it said by SDA's "we'll be judged by what we believe" - almost as if there will be a theology exam on top of the investigative judgment. Not sure how prevalent that thinking is or where it came from. |

Thanks Raven. The context of the conversation was when a non-SDA friend of mine didn't agree with part of the SDA interpretation of Revelation and I was told that it didn't really matter because that was not a important point. I was under the assumption that most SDAs believe their interpretation of Revelation is correct and that other viewpoints are wrong. Am I making an incorrect assumption? Isn't the SDA belief system based on the interpretations of Daniel and Revelation? The point of disagreement was not a little issue, but one that would totally change how Revelation was interpreted. Regardng the "judged by what we believe" I have found that to be prevalent in both SDA churches and other churches - living up to the light you have. So if you never hear about the Sabbath and live for God the best you know how it is okay and you can be saved. I've heard the same in some non-SDA churches except it is not about the Sabbath. For instance, someone may say that the person who has never heard about Jesus will still be saved if they live a good life. |
