He and I probably could find points to disagree on if we were to try. But I sure like what this 85 year old Adventist said in this interview, especially the last question. There are two radical statements that you'd not expect to hear from an older SDA in Michigan. 1. "Probably this earth was here before the creation week made by God at some time" (I agree btw, no flames please ) 2. "Salvation is a gift. It cannot be earned through good works on our part. It is received by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ our savior" |

Cforrester, It was good to read that and know that some of the older folks do not see all things as EGW does. Diana |

That is not precluded by the opening statement of Gen 1, even for those who insist on 6 literal days in the following passages. Day 1 occurs after these passages. 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. I don't lose sleep over the difference between young earth creationists and old earth creationists. However, I do struggle with how one could reconcile the Biblically presented concept of original sin, and the need for an atoning Savior, with theistic evolution. |

Cforrester, I really appreciate you posting this. There are many sincere Christians in Adventism. My mother is 84 years old, and there is not a sweeter Christian woman than her. Also, it may be somewhat unpopular to say this, but I have been reading some really interesting material about and by H.M.S. Richards Sr. Did you know that he did not oppose make-up and jewelry? I also read about his story where he said that a woman who was converted to SDA from amother Christian church, where he said that this woman came to him after being an SDA for about 5 years, and then told Richards she was going back to her previous church. When Richards found out that her SDA church was teaching EGW week after week, he became very critical of the SDA church, and said that SDA should focus on Jesus and Him crucified. HMS Richards Sr. was also a big fan of Charles Spurgeon! That is a man after my own heart! Stan |

Ric, yup on all points, especially the not losing sleep (over anything ) Stan, HMS Richards was asked about wearing makeup, and is reported to have answered, "if a barn needs painting, you paint it." Lots of neat people in Adventism. Now if they could just do something about some of those teachings... Do you check in with the Pyromaniacs for your Spurgeon fix? |

Cforrester, Yes, Phil Johnson (associate pastor of John MacArthur) runs a terrific blog as you posted, and he has weekly sermons from Spurgeon. Those sermons of Spurgeon are so rich with truth. Thanks for reminding us of that great blog. Stan |
