Well, the prayers paid off, the Glen Burnie SDA Church finally had a business meeting and voted to accept my letter or resignation!!!!!!!!!! This only took 4 months and a threat to get my lawyer involved, but they voted to accept my request last night, 14 Oct 2006!!!!! I received an e-mail from their pastor informing me of the vote, and he said that many members were quite upset over my decision. Gee, where were they in the 1 2/ years since I last set foot in their church. I will be more then happy to post the pastor e-mail to me if anyone is interested in seeing it. He did ask if I would clarify the reason's why I left, which I did, in a loving, Christian manner. I did inform him besides the doctrinal issues I had, the main reason I left way I was forgotten about once I stopped coming over 1 1/2 years ago. I told him that there were around 24 people or more that got baptized the same time my wife and I did, and I honestly think she is the last one left. I also informed him that they need to evaluate their procedures for contacing absent members. Because from what I witnessed in the 9+ years I was a member is they will contact a person a few times, and if that person is not a viable member, (translation, a favorite of the bulk of the members), then that person is quickly forgotten about. Anyhow, enough of that, I really apprecaite all the prayers you have put forth for me. Time to shut this painful chapter of my life and move on. |

If anything good comes out of this, I want the members of the GBSDA church to realize that EVERYONE is important, not a select few who are popular. I detailed my big points with the pastor, and I hope it is an eye opening experience for him. As far as I know, I am the first person to resign from that church since I was a member. |

91steps, praise God for putting an end to this chapter of your experience. I believe that God gives each of us certain "prayer assignments", and perhaps, 91steps, the members of the GBSDA church and their eventual willingness to "see" is one of things you can pray for. What a wonderful things, though, to experience the finalizing of your leaving! Colleen |

91- a year ago this month my 13 year old son wrote a letter to the SDA pastor asking his name be removed. The pastor acknowledged the letter by email and said he would take action. From that time on we have continued to get conference propaganda in my sons name. Today I reminded the pastor by email that this needs to be taken care of. The response I got was that my sons name was taken off a year ago, they just forgot to send us a letter. He is only 13, so why would the conference send him magazines and literature if he is off the books? Has anyone heard of such a thing? |

I think the threat of legal action is what woke them up! Some of the members know me pretty well and know I would not hesitate to take legal action against them!! I have sent several conference magazine back with instructions to remove my name from the mailing list, still get them. They go right into the recyables bin. |

91steps, You can write "Refused" and "return to sender" on anything you receive. Then put them in the mail box. If they get enough of them, they may get the point. That way they know you do not have them and are not reading them. Diana |

Hello all! I wanted to mention that the local SDA church met last weekend and accepted my letter of resignation (and only a month after I sent it to the pastor)! However, the pastor's message had a parting shot to the effect that my membership in "God's church" has been dropped. Odd, I think, since my resignation letter explicitly said I wanted freedom to join the Body of Christ! I am blessed in that this was the sourest note in an experience that so many others find so much more difficult. Though I don't post much, I am grateful for this forum and the people here that have eased and aided my journey. When I was first discovering the truth of freedom in Jesus Christ, so often my fragile state would be upset when I would be confronted with an "SDA truth" and then I would work out the real truth by reading the Bible while finding support here and on other web sites. I am also blessed by having several family members who have preceded me! Thank you for your love. patience, and example! Thanks also to my wife, who has helped me through these times, and who tossed out the "red books" for me :-) Looking forward to FAF weekend, Guy |
