I came across this prayer on one of my favorite blogs this evening and was so moved by it, that I wish to share this with all of you. This is a prayer of repentance offered by Philip Ryken, pastor of Tenth Presbyterian church in Philadelphia. This prayer should not only be read, but prayed and taken to heart. It is linked here at www.theologica.blogspot.com/2006/05/confession-and-repentance.html Stan |

Thanks Stan, that was awesome, and something to not just think about, but to respond to. Isnt it great though, to experience conviction, and repentance, and even brokenness over something the Holy Spirit sends, without the condemnation. Thats freedom to me. And of course Grace, Amazing Grace. It lets me face my sinfulness head on, and ask for change of heart--to the heart of God and his will for me. No point earning!! Relationship pursuing. Continuing to "Work out" or "manifest" our salvation (The salvation ALREADY GIVEN TO US AND IN US) with fear and trembing. (My paraphrase of a text that used to terrify me and hold me in bondage). The terror disappears when looking into the reality of a loving, holy, and gracious God. Lori |

Amen Lori. It makes all the difference in the world when we know that our salvation is secure and assured eternally. Stan |

That prayer of confession really moved me. Confessional prayers have become a very important part of corporate worship for me. It is something that is foreign to many parts of Christianity, certainly to SDAism. I was never particularly blessed by liturgical confessional readings from a hymnal. But our pastor prepares specific confessionals each week. And every time (much like this one Stan linked) it feels like he is talking just to me. Only a real sinner can truly and fully appreciate what grace means, and corporate prayers of confession are one means that can help us understand this. Thanks for posting that link! |

Ric-B, When I was a kid at the SDA they still said The Our Father in unison frequently. I havn't heard that recited in a SDA church in probably 40 years. Do you know how come that was discontinued? Is saying the Lord's Prayer maybe too Catholic for the SDA's? Do the SDA churches still have the readings from the back of their song book? I noticed last time that I looked at those readings that a lot of them seem to be taken from the writings and teachings of HMS Richards. |

Thanks Stan for that web site. I can say for myself that many times, more than I care to admit, I forget God. Thank you for reminding me of Him. Diana |
