Pick it up is my first thought. It might be a good oportunity to preach the Gospel to him in this aspect. "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." Col 4:5 Jesus Christ has conquered death!!! |

Dawn, there may be merit in responding to him, espcially if he's open to talking to you. Do you think he might read something, such as Discovering the New Covenant by Greg Taylor? This might be an opportune moment for him. Ask God to open the opportunity to speak if the timing is right. Colleen Colleen |

Ah, Doug Batchelor (or as I call him "Doug Botchelor"), the consumate snake oil salesman. With him, it all about high volume speed talking so you have no chance to think about or question the validity of what he says. This guy is a pro and a con. Every time I see him I am amazed at how well he presents faulty logic, questionable evidence, and rhetorical prestidigitation. Always a slick comeback to every objection. I guess the theory is that if you throw enough swiss cheese fast enough, nobody will notice the holes. Levi and you have my sympathy and prayers. |

Don't you guys think that Doug Batchelor himself is deceived? Which spirit do you think is talking to him? The Holy Spirit or an evil spirit? When he was converted in that cave- was it God or of the devil? Don't you think God orchestrates all of our conversions- even if He eventually leads us to another place? Perhaps his time has not come yet? or has he let that moment pass and is now knowingly deceiving others? Just wondering- because while I was an adventist, I was deceiving others sincerely believing I was doing God's bidding- leading others to the truth. Now I know better- how can we know that God will not also lead him into the real truth? Al-Nadean |

Al-Nadean, I don't believe we can know the reality of Doug's experience. We'd be speculating to draw firm conclusions. We CAN evaluate his teaching: its content, his dealings with the Scriptures and with people's questions, etc. God's in charge, and Doug will answer to Him as we all will. God can use even His enemies to speak for Himóremember Balaam and his donkey? I can't begin to know all that went on with Doug's conversion or with his decisions later. I just know that right now he is teaching another gospel. Colleen |

Thank you Colleen for breaking it down for me in such a concise way- every now and again I guess I just find it hard to understand how people could knowingly deceive others;not to mention play with God. I don't like to know that we are being harsh with people who are where we once were, but point well taken. Hi Diana |

I was told recently by a much loved elderly SDA kin of mine that D.B. made his living as a theif and he had been 'a real scroundal' before he found a Bible and read it. I always get a kick out of D.B. when I hear him tell the story about a person confronting him about keeping Sabbath. The person says something like, 'The Sabbath was given for the Jews. Are you a Jew?' and he answers that yes, he is Jewish and he continues on about how everyone should keep the Sabbath as the SDA church teaches. It's very convoluted and in my opinion totally twists things around. |
