This evening, I've been rummaging through my CD collection trying to get them organized. I came across a Chris Rice CD that I haven't heard in a long time. So, I popped it in, and continued organizing. The song "Go Light Your World" really touched me tonight as I listened to it (it has new meaning for me now). I wanted to share the lyrics, because I think it really describes all the different stages that people who come here go through, or have come through (darkness, confusion, lied to, etc...), but also talks about the power of God's Spirit and how contagious and irresistible it is to those that God has called. I am, and will be forever thankful, to all of you on this forum who brought your light into my world. Thank you.

Go Light Your World by Chris Rice

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites the candle, and makes His home

Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
And see now your sister, she's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame

We are a FAMILY whose hearts are BLAZING
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

 Chorus:
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, decieved and poor
And hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world

 Grace,
Thanks for sharing the words to that song. I liked your analysis about "the power of God's Spirit and how contagious and irresitible it is to those God has called." Amen to that statement!

 Thanks again for sharing,

 Stan

Amen Grace, I love that song. I think Cathy Troncali sings it too.

Its amazing how people are drawn to the light. One thing I am learning, is to never underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit in waking people up to truth.

A great blessing of being "out" is the doors that are opened to talk to people. Im surprised at the "great awakening", among people who would appear unlikely.

Ill never forget about six years ago, I was hurting terribly. I sat at the pool everyday during swim practice with a bunch of swimmoms. They talked about their neighborhood bible study regularly. Never once did they invite me. I was desperately seeking God, but kept waiting for them to ask. Im sure at that time, I seemed like an unlikely candidate for that sort of thing.

God did provide another avenue, but I often think of that, and am reminded that we just never know who in our immediate circle of friends and co-workers etc is "ripe" to be harvested into the awesome Kingdom of God. I am praying for boldness and discernment in my immediate circle.

Here's one of my favorite songs of late. Perfect when we think of Easter Season.

Navigation: C \ Chris Tomlin \ Mighty Is The Power Of The Cross

What can take a dying man and raise him up to life again?
What can heal a wounded soul?
What can make us white as snow?
 What can fill the emptiness?
 What can mend our brokenness?
 Brokenness

 Chorus:
 Mighty, awesome, wonderful
 Is the holy cross
Where the Lamb laid down His life
To lift us from the fall
Mighty is the power of the cross

What restores our faith in God?
 What reveals the Father's love?
What can lead the wayward home?
What can melt a heart of stone?
What can free the guilty ones
 What can save and overcome?
 Overcome

 (chorus)

 It's a miracle to me (2x)
 and It's still a mystery (2x)
 It's a miracle to me
 The power of God
 For those who believe

 Mighty, awesome, wonderful
 Is the holy cross
Where the Lamb laid down His life
To lift us from the fall
 Mighty is .......
 Mighty is.......
Mighty is the power of the cross

Thank You for the cross (2x)
 Love the cross (2x)
 So Powerful...... ohhhhh yeahhh
What can take a dying man?
And raise him up to life again?

 Worship You Jesus
By your wounds we are healed
By your wounds we are saved
Mighty is the power of the cross (2x)
Thank You Jesus for the Holy cross

 Hi Lori,
I just bought Chris Tomlin's "Arriving" CD last week, and have been listening to this song over and over (I'm one of those people who like to put songs on repeat until I drive everyone around me nuts). This has become one of my favorite songs too recently!

"How Great is Our God" (on that same CD) has been another one that gets put on the repeat cycle too. I just can't get tired of singing that. Our God really is great!

I've always loved Christian music (I have a huge CD collection to prove my obsession with it), but it seems as if lyrics lately have become so much more meaningful to me. I can't help but fall in a state of complete worship when listening to praise music -- even when I'm driving, or mopping a floor, or changing a diaper....My heart constantly wants to praise and sing
  .
 Thanks for sharing Lori!
 Grace

I'll share an old Amy Grant song that has meant a lot to me in my really dark times:

When the weight of all my dreams is resting heavy on my head, and the thoughtful words of help and hope have all been nicely said,
And I'm still hurting, wondering if I'll ever be the one I tihnk I am,
Then you daily remind me that you made me from the first, and the more I try to be the best, the more I get the worst,
And I realize the good in me is only there because of who you are.
And all I ever have to be is what you made me,
Any more or less would be a step out of God's plan,
As you daily recreate me help we always keep in mind, that I only have to do what I can find

And all I have to be, all I ever have to be, all I have to be, is what you made me.

-I used to write this song over and over when I felt like a failure, like I was trying to be something I wasn't, afraid that people would judge me. And I imagine that there are a lot of SDAs that would be so comforted to know they don't have to question their salvation if the just place their faith in Christ alone. We are enough with Him!
This song has always reminded me that when I try to do things of my own volition, they fail. And yet even failure doesn't reflect on my salvation. It reminds me to trust God for everything.
It means a lot to me right now, because I am in the midst of a HUGE decision, and I just need to remember that no matter what I decide, it doesn't change what really matters. It doens't change who I am in Christ.
(Now if I could just get to that spot where I feel PEACE even in the midst of this decision, in the "waiting room" so to speak)

Praying for peace and trust for you, Tanya.

I completely relate to your new response to worship music, Grace. Old songs have become completely new; songs I used to pass off with barely a nod are now powerful. Singing about the cross, the Trinity, knowing Jesusóall these things make me really emotional. (I hardly recognize myself...!)

Since we're sharing songs that are powerful for us, here are the words to "The Power of the Cross" by Paul Getty and Stuart Townend, the two who wrote "In Christ Alone". This song is on their newest CD, "New Irish Hymns for the Church" #4.

 Oh, to see the dawn
 Of the darkest day
Christ on the road to Calvary
 Tried by sinful men
 Turn and beaten then
Nailed to a cross of wood

 (Chorus)
This the power of the cross
 Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

 Oh to see the pain
 Written on your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin
 Every bitter thought
 Every evil deed
 Crowning your bloodstained brow

 Now the daylight flees
 Now the ground beneath
Quakes as itís Maker bows His head
 Curtain torn in two
 Dead are raised to life
 Finished the victory cry

 Oh to see my name
 Written in the wounds
For through your suffering I am free
 Death is crushed to death
 Life is mine to live
 Won through your selfless love

This the power of the cross
Son of God slain for us
What a love, what a cost
We stand forgiven at the cross

 Colleen,
That song is great. I think that is the one we sung last Fri night at FAF Bible study.

I think the author however is Keith Getty--maybe you were thinking of J. Paul Getty? (smiley)

Here is a link to the words of "In Christ Alone", which is my very favorite of all the new praise and worship hymns
 www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Newsboys/In-Christ-Alone.html

 I especially love the last verse;

"No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
 Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He return or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand."

Hey Stan, I love that song by the newsboys! While we are sharing lyrics that are special to us,this one was a song that meant a lot to me as I came back to Christ a few years ago. Probably hits the heart more when you hear Alison Krause sing it.
 (Ron Block)

I've seen hard times and I've been told
There isn't any wonder that I fall
Why do we suffer, crossing off the years
There must be a reason for it all.

I've trusted in You, Jesus, to save me from my sin
Heaven is the place I call my home.
But I keep on getting caught up in this world I'm living in,
And Your voice it sometimes fades before I know.

Hurtin' brings my heart to You, crying with my need.
Depending on Your love to carry me
The love that shed His blood for all the world to see,
This must be the reason for it all.

Hurtin' brings my heart to You, a fortress in the storm,
When what I wrap my heart around is gone.
I give my heart so easily to the ruler of this world,
When the one who loves me most will give me all.

In all the things that cause me pain You give me eyes to see.
I do believe but help my unbelief.
I've seen hard times and I've been told
There is a reason for it all...
