Several weeks ago a SDA lady was arrested and put in jail for serious child neglect/abuse. Her four young children, the oldest is 12 are in county custody. Her 19 year old son is by his mothers side everytime I see them on the news. The county says she kept the younger in locked cages. I frankly don't believe that at all. The newscast showed these "locked cages" and they just looked like small play area that when the kids aren't playing in them they can be locked up. And, that is just what the mother through a spokesperson on the news has said these areas are. The really super sad charge is that the lady was injecting Lupron to the 12 year old girl. Lupron is a very powerful medication given to men with prostate cancer. It also is occassionally given to very young girls who are well into puberty to halt going into puberty at an extremely young age. The lady says she gets the medication perscribed from a local pedetrication and picks it up at a local pharmacy. However, so far no local doctors ar pharmicies have claimed to have any record of this. The little girl says her mom gets the medicine in Mexico and gives it to her so she will stay a little girl. this is a leading story nightly on the local news in Santa Barbara. In 1980 the same lady apparently was stopped at the border between the US and Mexico with some little Mexican children that she had no papers on. The children were given to the Mexican authorities, the lady came home to Santa barbara and that seems to have been the end of that story. However, the Santa Barbara SDA minister has appeared on the TV news several times giving emotional support to the lady and pubically vouching to her honesty and integrety. She had been running a home daycare center at the time of her arrest but none of the daycare kids were in any misconduct by this lady. She was released from jail last week by folks posting a one million dollar bail. Anyway, if you read the Santa Barbara news you will see this is getting a lot of publicity. It is very sad. I say we need to pray for justice because if the lady is not as basd as the county says I hope she gets justice. But, if she has been giving her little girl Lupron she got from Mexico then I still pray for justice, especially for the children, they are truly the innocent ones in this saga. |

I will pray also. Hate to say it, but anyone providing daycare in their home unfortunately opens themselves for trouble. I know a couple of adventists who have done it and unfortunately, there was always some emotional abuse or neglect. But nothing illegal, I don't think. We don't know the situation, but if a little abuse is true, the news will make it worse. The news will make a good story at any cost. And my heart breaks for the many Adventist children and babies.

I was accused of abuse of my mother who I had been caring for. She told my sister I yelled at her and my sister called the state on me! The only thing my mom could say was that I "scolded" her about trying to go down the stairs without telling me! She was supposed to thave 24/7 care and standby assistance at all times. If I turned my back on her to put her walker at the bottom of the stairs she would try to start done while my back was turned. The state eventually found no abuse was occuring, but I had to go through months of investigation that involved many friends and neighbors. One State worker actually told me it WAS abuse because she was an adult and I was not to tell her what to do!! I asked if I would be charged with abuse if I stood by and watched her fall down the stairs! They couldn't answer that one! It's really scary what the state can do when they want to accuse a person of abuse. On the other hand, there is so much real abuse of elders and children that I can understand the need for investigating every claim. And I also know of SDA Pastors who will stand up for the abuser rather than let a "stain" be put on a member, and by association on the SDA Church. Again - a sign of a cult. They have to be PERFECT! Those children need our prayers, as do the parents and everyone involved in making decisions about that case. -tisha |

Tisha, how right you are. I am so sorry for what you have gone through. And I also am frustrated by the real and serious abuse that is never brought to light. It's very true that much abuse and misuse of power hides inside cultic churches and within many families that carefully polish the public presentation so as to conceal the devastation going on inside. I am convinced that all of us need to be aware that deception stalks all humanity, but we have power and safety in Jesus. We can pray for God to show us the truth and to help us live in reality. The light makes everything hidden in darkness visible. Colleen |
