As I observe the struggle between Christ's Gospel and Satan's lies within our own household, I am shocked at the boldness and sophistries, and how Satan perverts the truth. It is frightening, but thank God, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within each of us to "guide us into all truth", if we acknowledge Him and ask for His presence. It is like being involved in another type of "deliverance" ministry.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

============================
There is the thought expressed among some in my daily life that Ellen White no longer holds the grip on current Adventist thinking that she used to. I would like to suggest that nothing could be further from the truth. A closer examination of a Sabbath School Junior/Earliteen lesson (http://powerpoints.adventist.org/2005/Teacher/LTGQ4/LTGQ4_Lesson14.pdf ) just five weeks ago (Dec 31, 2005) is frightening. Satan is truly desperate. I have purchased the PrayKids magazine (http://www.navpress.com/Magazines/PrayKids!/?page=sample) so that my son has some wholesome spiritual food each week in its place.

The falsehoods are so bold, and the propaganda so intense, it is unbelievable.

==== A Special Gift ====
Year B, 4th Quarter, Lesson 14
Grace in Action: God's grace blesses us.

Power Text:
ìSurely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophetsî (Amos 3:7, NIV).

Key Texts and References:
Revelation 12:17; 19:10; Early Writings, pp. vii-xxxii; Seventh-day Adventists Believe, pp. 217-229; student story on page 146 of this guide.

--------------------------
C. ìTelepathyî
On a table in front of the room where everyone can see, lay out nine books in three rows of three. Send someone out of the room having prearranged
the code with them (see below). One at a time, ask the students to choose any book they like and say that your accomplice will be able to pick it
out. When your accomplice comes in, you point to a series of books. The student has to say when you point to the right book. (The prearranged code could be that the position you point to on the first book is the book that the students have chosen. For example, if you point to the center of the first book, it would be the center book of the nine. If you point to the top right-hand corner, it is the book in the top right-hand corner.)
Repeat this a couple of times.
Ask: How were my helper and I able to communicate? Accept all answers.
How did you feel while watching it?
Say: Itís not really possible to read someone elseís mind. This was just a trick. Explain how it was done.
Ask: When have you seen something like this happen before, if ever? How did you feel watching it happen?
Debriefing
Say: Many people today spend a lot of time trying to read the future using tea leaves, twigs, cards, animal bones or blood, crystal balls, psychic hot lines, and horoscopes. The results are no better than if my helper were trying to read my mind. They are a fake. However, we can know something about the future. God has given a very special gift to His churchóthe gift of prophecy. It tells us about things that are going to happen and helps us prepare for them. Today we are going to find out more about this exciting gift.
Our power point this week is:
The Spirit of Prophecy is Godís special gift to the church today.

--------------------
Sharing the Lesson:
Give each student a paperback copy of Steps to Jesus (simplified version), Steps to Christ, or photocopy the chapter ìThe Privilege of Prayer,î pages 93-104. Explain that this is something Ellen White wrote to help us have a better friendship with Jesus. Ask them to read it during the week.
Debriefing
Ask: How do you feel knowing that God loves you so much that He has given you this special gift of prophecy?
Encourage each student to share something they learn from reading Steps to Christ with a friend or someone in their family this week.
Ask: How can we have confidence in what we are reading?
(by faith that God sent it)
Say: Remember, The Spirit of Prophecy is Godís special gift to the church today.

------------------
PowerPoint: (this is repeated over and over throughout the lesson!)
The Spirit of Prophecy is Godís special gift to the church today.

Only Satan could be so sophisticated to mix the truth with falsehoods and sound so real. The more I read about EGW, the more I think it was Satan that was directing her.
Thank you God that you directed me to take my son our of SDA school and directed me to put him in a local public school. Thank you so much.
You are awesome.

Oh my! I remember that 'Telepathy' lesson from SDA grade school!

I remember learning the 'trick' to it, and remember feeling very knowing once I understood it, but I did NOT remember the connection to the 'gift of prophecy'.

Hmmm.

Blessings,

Mary

You are such beautiful people. Ellen White used lie after lie.

"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10

It is frightening, isn't it. But we have a "strong tower" in the Holy Spirit. Praise God!

It is frightening, if that is all we have. But we have Jesus Christ and He conquered all evil/Satan at the cross. There is no controversy between Christ and Satan. Satan knows he is vanquished. So Praise God. He is so AWESOME.

Gilbert,
You are in Utah and I am in Las Vegas, NV. If you and your family ever come down this way, get my e-mail address from Colleen and let me know. It is always to nice to meet a former.

Gilbert, I remember learning about Ellen similarly. I don't remember it being connected to the "telepathy" game, but I do remember that sort-of smug confusion about learning that we had special insight into the future that the average person didn't have. The proof of her prophet status always seemed just a little vague, but I was nonetheless convinced.

I totally agree, Diana and Gilbert, that Ellen didn't get her insights merely from epileptic trances or hallucinations. They wouldn't have been nearly so well-organized and convincing if they had been merely the "ravings" of mental illness or brain damage. Similarly, they wouldn't have been confusing and unbiblical if they had been from God.

They were deliberately deceptive, and deception comes from one source: evil.

I always thought reading tea leaves made the most sense of the ways you mentioned because after reading the leaves one could brew a nice warm cup of tea and drink it. Seriouselly though, it's all bunk. I would have never thought even the SDA church would try to be so underhanded but I guess I have been underestimating the devil.
