Hi All,

I've been so busy I have visited the forum lately. A friend of mine's sister just "found herself" in a Unitarian Universalist church. I know a tad about it and am in prayer for her. Can anyway offer some insight or experiences from that church?

Thanks

Hi Becky,
I have friends who are members of the Unitarian Universalist church. Several years ago when I asked one of them about it she said that it's not a Christian church, but christians go there. She said that they have people from all different religions, buddists, jewish, earth religions (wicca, witches), etc.

I have another (sda) friend who used to sing with a choir from a UU church. She said they were quite anti christian. They were to sing a piece by a classical composer that had the name of Jesus in it and she said many of the choir members didn't want to say the name of Jesus.

Several months ago I met with a mom's group that I used to belong to when my girls were little. We get together a few times a year for a night out. 3 of the moms are the friends I mentioned above who go to the UU church. The conversation that night unfortunately turned to religion and politics. Out of the six of us there only 2 of us are conservative christians and we were not the ones who brought up the subjects. The hostility
toward christians I heard from these friends was very upsetting. They know that the 2 of us are Christian, but still let things fly. They claim tolerance, but are not tolerant of Christians. I could sense a heaviness and darkness of a spiritual nature there that night. I was fervently praying! this is my experience with the Unitarian Universalist Church.

There is a very helpful chapter on Unitarians in the book "The Kingdom of the Cults". I would highly recommend it: THE KINGDOM OF THE CULTS.

Chris - Did they update this Kingdom of the Cults book on Adventism in the 2003 Edition?

I actually only own the '97 edition. I've only leafed through the '03 update at the bookstore. As far as I can tell from a quick perusal, the SDA appendix is nearly identical to the older editions and preserves Dr. Martin's original verdict on Adventism and EGW.

Is this book then the most comprehensive up to date book on cults, by a Christian, still? It seems to be giving the SDA church an upper hand on anyone that claims they are a cult.

I was at a meeting yesterday where the pastor of
the church I have been attedning (Evangelcal Covenant) talked about the history of the church He gave us a neat chart, like a tree and there was the Unitarian Universalist church branching off from Reformed (Calvin) then Presbyterian but he said
no it should not be there, it was not Christian,
it was post-Christian--whatever that is and came out of the Diest, which was not on the chart.SDA's were not on the chart--there were a lot not on the chart.
