Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I'm still around. I haven't had a good opportunity to post lately with a lot of things going on ... OK, to be honest, my wife has been very depressed, as have I, regarding a lot of things, but mostly financial pressures. We're having our third child, this one not planned, and the career ladder doesn't look so bright and promising right now. In addition, there's been a lot of friction lately between the wife and I as I struggle for a little more independence from the SDA thought police and have stopped going to most of the church services. Unfortunately, I have not started searching for a Sunday church as of yet, due to futher conflict, which leaves me high and dry spiritually. In addition, our oldest child started school last month, and so now the big issue is whether or not we let him eat the pork in the lunch menu or send him to school with his lunch. We qualify for free lunches because of our financial status, so I say let him go for it ... it will be more nutritious that what we can afford to send with him. She totally disagrees. Go figure. And recently she finishes reading EGW's Steps to Christ and Ministry of Healing, and now feels that they are among her favorite books ... great. So where do I go from here ... only God knows. Please keep me and my family in your prayers. |

I feel your pain Abundantrest. I too endured a lot of marital hardship when transitioning out of SDAism. What was so unsettling was...prior to that, we were pretty much on the same page about everything...then suddenly we aren't even in the same book! It got so bad that I quit voicing my opinion after a while, but that was bad too. It made me look wishy-washy. Speak your opinion in a non-confrontational way if possible and pray! Things do get better. |

Abundantrest, I am also praying for you and your wife. I am praying that God will give you comfort and great wisdom and that He will use you to lead your family into the truth of Jesus alone. Loving your wife as Christ loved the church (impossible without the Holy Spirit's power!) right now is really important, pregnant and fearful as she is. If you honor and cherish her while standing on Christ alone, He will love her through you. Pray that you will be able to love her for God and that He will be your comfort, your shield, your strength, and your joy. Colleen |

Dear Abundentantrest, My heart and prayers gpo out to you and your fasmily. Fisrt a note from personal experience. Whenever I was pregnant I was extremely moody so possibly some of the tension is brought on by your wife being pregnant. About the pork in the school lunches-please go and ask the ccafeteria person what sort of meat the school uses in the various meet dishes. All my children went through public schools and no school they ever went to used pork in the lunches. The lady in charge told me that was because too many children are allergic to pork. Even the hotdogs were chicken or turkey. Just hang in there and know you have a lot of prayers beibg said about your situtation. |

Dear Abundantrest, I see my post did not appear. So in short, I can relate to having a third un-planned child and financial pressures. I have my own story to share, if you are interested. Ask Colleen to send you my e-mail address. Meanwhile you remain in my prayers. Jess |

Dear Abundantrest, I could hear the pain in your message. You and your family will be in my prayers in a special way this evening. I concur with Colleen - about making sure that your wife feels loved and secure during this difficult time. Sometimes when we get a taste of what freedom in Christ means - there can be a tendancy to be adamant about trying to make sure everyone around us gets it too! But in the process we can cause hurt. At least for me, one of the most difficult things to learn was to avoid going from being dogmatic about things like Sabbath, diet, ect. to being dogmatic about Grace! There's actually no such thing as dogmatic grace - but I didn't always see that. It was such a relief to finally be able to step back and let God do the convicting. Keep your courage. Trust that God will reveal the wonderful liberty and grace you have found in Jesus - to your family. |
