This web site is so addicting to read. And funny! This links to the discussion of adventists, but the others are worth reading as well. http://godulike.co.uk/faiths.php?chapter=90&subject=intro Humorously, Hannah |

Hannah, I just spent around 30 minutes on that site. I went to numerous religions available on there. The SDA seems to have the lowest score on the rating system. I like the authors humor in the was s/he writes. |

Did you read any of the threads on vegetarianism? They are absolutely wild, even more anti-meat than any SDA have ever spoken to. Unbelievable. DT |

You know, I'm coming to believe vegetarianism is really a pagan belief. I'm not talking about people who for specific health reasons don't eat meat (such as a person I know with advancing multiple scelrosis, and her diet is extremely restricted, etc). Richard found a website the other night run by a sort of offshoot group who claim to be the successors of the Essenes, a sect of Judaism that was active when Jesus was on earth. They teach adamantly that the Bible falsely shows Jesus eating meat, that in reality Jesus was a vegetarian and taught vegetariansim. Have you ever noticed that the people who are the most strict vegetarians tend to be people into forms of pagansim such as wicca, or Buddhism, or Hinduism...? I'm increasingly convinced that Ellen's "counsels" on vegetarianism came from that same spirit. It is so NOT a Biblical teaching. Colleen |

I'm convinced that any teaching that pulls one's thoughts away from the awesome micracle of cleansing through the blood of Christ Jesus is a pagan teaching. That means those people who are concerned with behavior, or dress, running away from the cities to hunker down in the country, any of those things can become distractions that take your trust away from Jesus and get you thinking about what you can do to save yourself. I'm weary of hearing about diets, first it's avoid fats, then carbs, then any red meats. Once upon a time coffee was horrible, now it's wonderful. I've gotten old enough to know that you should enjoy your food and drink, don't overdo anything, love your families and friends, and most important of all, trust Jesus to have completely taken care of your salvation. Our time here is short, and our purpose while here is to find out about the gospel and then to share it with the other people in your life. Along the way you will be eating, drinking, working, playing, laughing and loving. All of those things can either be abused, or can be a way we can glorify God in our lives. I'm definitely convinced that when you allow your thinking to marginalize on one issue, you may be in a problem area. |

Belva, really great insight--and I love your summary: "I'm definitely convinced that when you allow your thinking to marginalize on one issue, you may be in a problem area." Colleen |

By the way, Hannah, I've had a good time reading some of the posts on the site you posted. Do some of the posters seem to be talking in circles, or is it just me? |

I really didn't go into the forums. The author's descriptions of the different religions were/are so interesting to me. Even though he pokes fun at denominational extremes, some of his criticisms are accurate, and I don't think he has an agenda, since he makes equal light of atheism and agnosticism. (unless it is promoting his own tongue-in-cheek religion The-God-You-Like.) Much of what he says is informational. I get tired of the spin denominations use to promote themselves, since they end up saying nothing much at all. And it's not all bad. For instance about Methodists (which I am, sort of) he says they emphasize having a personal relationship with God. Can't argue with that! But I will check out the forums, thanks for the info. Moderately, Hannah |
