Yes, the SDAs will likely oppose this nominee on the basis of him being Catholic. Now, we will have a national Sunday law right around the corner! I can't wait for that to happen!

I have actually heard a lot of positive and respectful comments about the nomination on public tv forums. I've expected the negativity, but didn't hear any. They spoke well of his qualifications. One thing I did hear they were critical of was his race...Why can't we just look at people's qualifications and stop trying to make everything a race or ethnic issue?? I hope it goes well for him, if that's God's will. |

Just this AM, Laura Ingraham was talking about how liberal groups are now attacking even this judge's wife, because she is part of a group called "feminists for life", and she was faulted by the "feminazis" from NOW because she is an advocate for adoption instead of abortion. It is going to get ugly, but a lot of opposition is coming from more of the peripheral fringe groups such as Moveon.org and others. You will hear opposition from the Chucky Schumer and Ted Kennedy, and Barbara Boxer crowd in the Senate, but it is very unlikely the Democrats will try to filibuster this nominee. I agree, that most of the public debate on TV has been positive.

If the talking heads are right, it seems he only needs 5 democrats in addition to 100% of the republicans. I really don't know anything about the man personally, just know a local serial killer had the same name....which caught my atttention.
Last night, I was painting a room and had the tv on, when the news was over, Letterman came on. I do not regularly watch him, so I was a bit surprised when he began criticizing the guy's wife for the color of her outfit. He questioned Robinson's qualifications because he didn't tell her to change. Maybe that's just SOP for Letterman, but it seemed out of place to me. |

The questions that Chucky has in mind for Judge Roberts are questions that no nominee has ever answered because they are probable scenarios that would go before the court.
The reason they are so bent on "exposing" his political philosophy is because they can't imagine anyone actually making an opinion based on existing law and not legislating from the bench in the mold of R.B. Ginsberg, and some of the others, based on their own ideology. This is foreign to folks like the Schumers, Kennedys, Leahys, and Boxers of the world. If they actually uphold and interpret the law rather than try to write it then their politics shouldn't matter.
If you can't get your agenda passed through the legislature (ie, the people), the next logical choice is to do it via the judiciary (ie, activist judges). This is what happens when you can't win in the arena of ideas.

You have it exactly right, Heretic. Can you imagine Teddy Kennedy sitting on the Judiciary committee sitting in judgment of this nominee? This just happens to be the week that we are reminded of Chappaquidick.

I know this isn't a political forum, but I have just one comment to make about Ted "Splash" Kennedy. I was working with a patient this week, when "Splash" appeared on one of the news channels. This got my patient talking about him because he grew up in Massachusetts and spent summers at Cape Cod with his parents as a kid, where the Kennedy's lived (Hyannisport, I guess). Anyhow, my patient (who is probably about "Splash's" age) used to make sand sculptures and sandcastles on the beach there with his friends. But then lo and behold, some jerk would come riding by on his horse and trample the projects just to be nasty. This happened at least a couple of times. That person was none other than "Splash" himself. Needless to say, most of the other kids there couldn't stand him and his distaste for the man persists today. On the other hand, he loved JFK. Turns out that JFK had done something very unselfish and gone out of his way for my patient's family with a particular matter when he was in Congress or the Senate or whatever it was before he was President. Funny how JFK's and "Splash's" politics are/were so diametrically opposed. If JFK were alive today, he'd probably be an outcast in his own party.
Okay, no more political opining. Sorry guys, I couldn't resist.

Heretic, I like the bumper sticker that says, "My gun has killed less people than Teddy Kennedy's car." That pretty much sums up my opinion of Splash. |

Hillary got all gushy with the Religous Liberty Dept at the GC last year, that is why so many SDA's are swooning over her. I almost vomited when I saw her on the Hope Chan, they have tv screens all over the GC broadcasting it 24/7, reminds me of Orwells 1984!!! As soon as I heard Hillary praising the Adventist Church I KNEW something was wrong!!!! |
