Tracey, how much do you "resemble" chocolate. If I ate as much as I'd like I'd look like an even larger chocolate bar then I already do. Richard rtruitt@mac.com |

Melissa, I have been wanting to find the time to reply to your post about Maunday Thursday, the stations, etc. Maunday Thursday is a solumm service in honor of the Last Supper. I'm sure there are as many different services to acknowledge this as there are churches that do a Maunday Thursday service but at the same time I think however this event is acknowledged would bring a deep personal blessing to the recipient. I have never done The Stations at a Lutheran church. I have parisipated in the Stations with my Catholic friends and once at an Epispalian church. You don't need a rosery but the Catholics seem to think this enhances the meaning so to them I say go for it, get out that rosery. But, the stations are the significant events of the last 12 hours of Jesus's life before his cruisifiction, The Passion Story. Generally the church will have pictures along the wall, 12 pictures, in order of these events. The person goes to each picture, contimplates what Jesus did for us and then moves on to the next picture. For some people it helps to have the visualizations to gain a greater understanding of the debth Jesus went to in order to release us from our sins. I am a big fan of icons. I like the religious pictures, too. And the more gorey and violent the more I'm drawn to them. At St. John's Cathedral in Fresno is a very large picture of Michael the Archangel killing satan. It's awsome. Michael has satan on the ground and has his foot on top of satans neck just about ready to slay satan. It's a wonderful picture. I totally love that stuff. But, back to the discussion of the Holy Week events. After Maunday Thursday is Good Friday. At the Good Friday service, which is at 3 p.m. the church is darkened since in the Bible story the sky became as night at 3 o'clock when Jesus was crusified. There is the passing of the cross. It's a huge cross and it is passed overhead and everyone in the building partispiates in this. It is a very solomm service. There is no benadiction because the end isn't until Easter morning when He has risen. I hope this helps explain some of the services during this week. |

Richard, my church, Crossroads Christian Church, is in Corona, CA. Take the 15 fwy south past the 91 fwy, going toward San Diego. Exit at Ontario Avenue, turn right, and go about a mile and a half. The church is at the intersection of Ontario and Kellogg Avenues, on the left. Join us on Sunday at 10 am to celebrate the Resurrection! But come early. We expect more than 10,000. We will worship outdoors, in the park next to the church. |

Thanks, Susan. That sounds like what our church is going to do this year, but we're doing the stations on Friday instead of the service you talk of. It will be interesting to see... |

Melissa, Do you get EWTN? That is the Catholic tv station. If you do then you might want to turn it on as they are having a lot on there today explaining the Stations, Maundy Thursday, etc. It has been very interesting. |
