Did anyone happen to catch Hank's program yesterday? I was listening on the way home from work and someone asked about keeping Sabbath under the New Covenant. Hank never really answered the question--never even dealt with the Sabbath issue. You can listen to it here:

http://www.oneplace.com/Ministries/bible_answer_man/Archives.asp (Start at the 12 minute mark)

We've discussed that Hank is less than forthcoming about confronting SDA issues. I "accidently" made the acquaintenance of a preacher who is a writer for the CRI journal. I asked him about our concerns. Here is his answer:

"Hank (and CRI) has taken a stance on SDA doctrines which should turn off any listening SDA. For instance, we have written quite a bit against SDA teachings such as anihiliationism, soul-sleep, Sabbath keeping, etc. We have also written against E.G. White being a prophet.

Even in the book 'Kingdom of the Cults' we have a section devoted to SDA. Though we are very careful to note that many sincere and wonderful brethren find themselves in SDA churches, so we cannot state 100% of SDA members are not true born-again believers.

I do know that in the last two years we have done more and more to place a clear line of demarcation when it comes to core SDA doctrines that are not only unbiblical, but heretical and or bondage making."

Your thoughts re the broadcast and this man's comments would be appreciated.

Here's the problem, CRI and Hank H. (HH) do criticize many of the core doctrines of historic Adventism as well as EGW, but then they go on to suggest that these core doctrines and belief in EGW are not representative of modern Adventism. Also they see some of these doctrines as not being things we need to divide over and then assume (wrongly) that SDAs take the same view.

In addition, it should be noted that HH basically agrees with SDAs on the covenants, the Law, the 10 commandments, and the Sabbath. I have heard HH say more than once on his program that trying to demonstrate a dichotomy between the covenants is incorrect and that they are essentially the same covenant with some revisions. I have heard HH divide the Law into ceremonial, civil, and moral and state that all the moral parts of the Law apply to us today including the 10 commandments. I have heard HH say that we still keep the 4th commandment, but that God has changed the focus of the 4th commandment over time. According to HH the focus of the Sabbath was orignially creation, then it was freedom from Egypt, now it's the resurrection and that God has always picked the emphasis, but the command has always been in place.

So if you examine HH's views, they are nearly identical with SDAs views with the excetion of what the focus of the Sabbath is. That's it. It's no wonder he is slow to denounce SDA theology.

Good observations about the Bible Answer Man, Chris. I am comforted that Bob George (www.realanswers.net) has a solid, biblical understanding about law and grace. People to People International Radio Ministries is also a call-in show like Hank Hanegraaff has.

Furthermore, a former SDA minister, Richard Pfeifer, is the People to People Ministries project director. Several months ago, Richard Pfeifer was interviewed by Bob George. Richard focused on the legalism in Adventism during the 30-minute radio interview. It was an accurate portrayal of Adventism.

I'm really glad to hear that Bob George has a former Adventist working with him.

Richard heard HH this last week in a show in which he said exactly what you described, Chris, regarding the covenants not really being different. Richard also reported that Hank said that while Jesus fulfilled the law, still the 10 Commandments are for Christians today.

I wonder, also, how the news of his mail fraud has not seemed to affect his program being on the air. Perhaps it will eventually...and perhaps I need to let God take care of the matter in His own time!

I decided once I wanted to do some Bible study books. So I went to the Christian bookstore and bought around 10 books by that man. I never even made it through one. I threw them all in the trash and figured it a loss. Then I ordered some Bible studies by Concordia plubishing and I really like them.

I listened to that link, as much as I could. I just got really ticked off and closed the box. He was talking in circles rather than just saying I really don't know. Angers me.

Incidentally, C and I were watching a sermon on tv today. The subject was about God transcending time and space. And how God is about NOW because of Jesus. too long to get into. But I thought to myself. Praise God! I have held wanting to say that to C for so long and here it comes another way.

Tracey, I totally agree that Hank was talking in circles. Since he believes the 10 Commandments are still valid, I wonder whether he's under conviction he should be keeping the Sabbath? Perhaps Bacchiocche has gotten to him and he's soon coming out with a new revelation?

Colleen, he was appealing for money and alluding to trials in the ministry lately saying they were under attack. He alluded to the reason being that people are making things up because of his fiction book, The Last Disciple. I guess it is giving the Left Behind series a run for its money and Tim LaHaye, Jack VanImpe and such are very upset with him about now, because many futurists are looking into his partial preterist beliefs. I donít catch enough of his program long enough or frequently enough to know exactly the nature of his beliefs, but I did hear him say he considers full preterism heresy.

He said he likes to look to the future and not get into specifics of attacks but that he might discuss it on-air in the future. To me, that sounds like he's taking a major financial hit--rightfully or wrongly accused I wouldn't know.

I actually called one time several years ago and asked a similar question. He didn't answer me specifically and scripturally, but merely said we keep the cycle (resting one in seven days) and to say that one particular day was the "correct" day was legalism. He never gave a direct and pointed answer to the question. He is almost dismissive about the question every time I've heard it asked. I don't listen to him any more. I just got tired of his lack of scriptural support and more of his philosophying about many topics.

I have many problems with Hank Hanegraff. First of all I was greatly blessed of God to have the original Bible Answer Man, Dr Walter Martin, as a spiritual mentor and friend during the time I was processing out of SDA, so maybe I am biased. But there is evidence that Walter never intended for Hank to take over the ministry, and that he took it from Mrs Martin during a vulnerable time after Walter's death. The Martin family has a website, www.waltermartin.com, and scroll down to questions on the left hand side, and they document a lot of what went on and also has updates on the mail fraud situation. Here's a link to an article about Hank Hanegraaff. Thought some of you might be interested:

Thanks for linking this article, Helovesme2, as this illustrates how we should be careful about what we read on the Net. I was fooled, as this guy, William Alnor, seemed credible--and maybe he is right, as a court of Law will now try to determine that. There is another thread where this particular web site and particular situation was discussed under, "Hank Hanegraff being investigated for mail fraud", in this forum. Stan

And thank you Stan for finding the "Mail Fraud" thread. I knew there was one, but didn't think of the right words to put in search to find it!
