I saw a similar thread on another board I visit, and really enjoyed the posts. I looked back and saw that a long time ago there was a similar thread here, but perhaps it might be time to start a new one. Music (and lyrics) have always spoken to my heart in ways that books (as much as I love them) and speakers can not. I recall, more years ago than I care to admit, Keith Green being the first "contemporary" Christian artist I had ever heard. I probably still have some of his cassettes and/or vinyl records somewhere in boxes. Today I was browsing for stocking stuffers at Best Buy and saw a Keith Green CD. I had several hours of driving today so I listed to the CD non-stop. I had forgotten just how powerfull some of his songs were. For instance: Grace by Which I Stand Lord, the feelings are not the same, I guess Iím older, I guess Iíve changed. And how I wish it had been explained, that as youíre growing you must remember, That nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus. I know that I would surely fall away, except for grace, by which Iím saved. Lord, I remember that special way, I vowed to serve You, when it was brand new. But like Peter, I canít even watch and pray, one hour with You, And I bet, I could deny You too. But nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus. Iím sure that my whole life would waste away, except for grace, by which Iím saved. But nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus. I know that I would surely fall away, except for grace, by which Iím saved. I'd enjoy seeing other posts of favorite lyrics, regardless of genre. |

One of my favorite songs is the Woman at the Well. Like the woman at the well I was waiting for things that could not satisfy. But then I heard my Saviour speaking, Drink from the well that never shall run dry. Take my cup Lord and fill it up Lord, Came and fill this longing of my soul. Bread of heaven, fill me till I want no more. Fill me up, fill me up and make me whole. I sing it to myself as I play my guitar. Diana |

When I was going through the transition from legalism to grace and questioning all I had ever believed in doctrinally this song came on the radio, and I had heard it a million times before but one phrase actually jumped out at me, and I felt like it was God speaking to me. The group is Point of Grace...the song is "The Wonder of it All" (I'll emphasize the part that spoke to me) Hear the clock strike two a.m. Another sleepless night for you Oh, I have been there too But there is healing in the hand of God He will cover everybody He'll even touch someone like you IT'S A NATURAL THING TO BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING WONDERFUL NEVER COMES EASY LET IT GO There is power in the cross to heal us There is freedom in the blood that Jesus Offered to you So Freely Feel the wonder of it all Let your heart and your mind receive An answer to the call Feel the wonder of it all Sweet Jesus The love of God The wonder of it all It is a beautiful song to listen to also and there is another verse. But I love the words!!

Hello..Thought I would pop in from time to time.....I don't know if anyone has ever heard of Don Francisco? We love his music. It seems like most all of his music is based on the theme of the prodigal son.....His music may not be geared for the young folks but his message really hits home about God's unconditional love for us...The guy never seems to tour much around the U.S.....but him and his wife to have a website.... www.rockymountainministries.org My favorites song is called "The Prodigal's Song" and these are the lyrics: Here I am just a poor man Made poorer still by the knowledge of the riches I have squandered Oh, I've wandered -- I stand convicted Even knowing that the deepest of my wounds were mostly self-inflicted Where did my heart go? Where have I been? You opened my eyes to the darkness and lies And I shut them again CHORUS And I want to go home to my Father I want to be part of where my heart says I belong I want to wash my weary soul in living water I've been away, way, too long -- I want to go home Out on the bound'ries of my freedom I was lookin' for fences that would keep me in, and I found there were none Only Your sweet love, Lord And, fool that I've been You broke the chains of my heartache and pain And I forged them again CHORUS And I want to go home to my Father I want to be part of where my heart says I belong I want to wash my weary soul in living water I've been away, way, too long -- I want to go home Jesus, Lord, please help me, I'm so full of regret BRIDGE It's so hard to forgive myself, Lord, and it's harder to forget I need You to hold me and heal me I need You to mold me and steel me By the power of your Word to be the son You've called me to be CHORUS And I want to go home to my Father I want to be part of where my heart says I belong I want to wash my weary soul in living water I've been away, way, too long -- I want to go home |

I hope you won't mind me self promoting a bit. I recently wrote a song that provides a snapshot of my testimony and the amazing things that God has done in my life over the past year or so. Let me know if you have any thoughts about the lyrics: Looking in the rear view I see detours life can take I see what it's come to but I donít see what took place You let me run, you let me hide You let me keep it all inside You loved me and I knew that things could change I never knew life could be so healthy I never knew You were all Iíd need I always thought love was just a fable That misery loves some company I wanted the bliss of my own fancy You wouldnít just leave and let me be You could have just let me face my failure But You took my life and set it free Now Iím a new creation Iím amazed the change I see So why do I keep thinking That there is something else I need A shadow tells me where Iíve been Iím not going down that road again I need to turn completely Donít want to wander anymore I never knew life could be so healthy I never knew You were all Iíd need I always thought love was just a fable That misery loves some company I wanted the bliss of my own fancy You wouldnít just leave and let me be You could have just let me face my failure But You took my life and set it free Iím a cared for, hoped for, prayed for, died for Living, hoping, believing child of God A shadow tells me where Iíve been Iím not going down that road again I need to turn completely Donít want to wander anymore I never knew life could be so healthy I never knew You were all Iíd need I always thought love was just a fable That misery loves some company I wanted the bliss of my own fancy You wouldnít just leave and let me be You could have just let me face my failure but You took my life and set it free Copyright (C) 2005 Reel Hope Music

Tdf, what wonderful lyrics! Knowing just a bit about your journey (Adventism to Christian, etc.) makes them even more meaningful. I love the lines "I never knew life could be so healthy/I never knew You were all I'd need"--I so relate to that! Thank you for sharing your song--I'd love to hear the music! Colleen |

Hmmm fav lyrics. Wow I love so many!! With many songs it's the combination of the music and lyrics that makes the song so powerful, but in one of my favorite songs the lyrics really stand alone. That song is "In Christ Alone" by Stuart Townend.(the music is also very very cool) The arrangement looks traditional, but actually the song is contemporary. "In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Til He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand." I hope you can get a chance to listen to it sometime.

Hannah, that is exactly the song I thought of last night when I was thinking about lyrics to post! I agree with you; this song, both lyrics and music, is powerful and very beautiful. It's one of my very favorites! Colleen |

I love this thread about music and lyrics. Speaking of Praise and Worship music, which I generally like, there is a very insightful article on the Praise and Worship movement. This author, Michael Spencer, likes P and W, but has problems with the way it is marketed. If you are interested, go to www.internetmonk.com and scroll down a little ways to his article Looney Tunes. Here's one more that I often sing to myself. He really will take care of the rest! He'll Take Care Of The Rest You know it ain't no use, banging your head, up against that cold stone wall, Cause nobody's perfect, except for the Lord, and even the best bound to fall, Remember He is de vine, and you are de branch, He'd love to get you through it if you'd give Him a chance, Just keep doing your best, And pray that it's blessed, And Jesus takes care of the rest. Yes the Lord said that He'd take care of the rest, He's gonna do it, He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it, He'll take care of the rest, the devil blew it, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the rest. Just think about Moses, in front of the burning bush, barefoot on the Holy ground, You know, he must have been thinking, what's an old dude like me, Gonna tell em all when I go down, go down Moses, The Lord said, hey Moe, don't you worry about going down south, I'll be saying every word that comes out of your mouth, Just keep doing your best, and pray that it's blessed, Hey Moe, I'll take care of the rest. Yes the Lord said that He'd take care of the rest, he's gonna do it, He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it, He'll take care of the rest, oh, Pharaoh blew it, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the rest. Just believe, and you'll receive, that comfort you need, You just think about all those lonely people you know, They've got everything they want, but they have empty souls, Well, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the, care of the rest. You just think about Noah, toting his umbrella, when there wasn't a cloud in the sky, All his neighbors would laugh at his pet giraffe, and would snicker as he walked by, But the Lord said, hey Noah, keep cool, just keep building that boat, It's just a matter of time till they see who's gonna float, You just keep doing your best, and pray that it's blessed, Hey Noah, I'll take care of the rest, I'm the weatherman. The Lord said that he'll take care of the rest, He's gonna do it, He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it, He'll take care of the rest, his neighbors blew it, He'll take care of the rest, He's gonna do it, He's gonna do it, He'll take care of the rest, only Jesus can see you through it, He'll take care of the rest, yes, yes, yes, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the restÖ. |

Here's a song that ministered to me today: CHORUS: (in Lugandan) Kimu nkimaanyi Buli muntu alina ensiigo Omutima gwo gukulung 'aamye Buli muntu alina ensiigo Some people quietly reveal In the manner of the meek Some people shout the way they feel To a radical degree Some people sing it to express While others hear another call Some people speak with subtleness Some don't rely on words at all But let me tell you 'bout... CHORUS One thing I know Everybody's got a seed to sow let your heart of hearts Take you down the road Everybody's got a seed to sow We all are pieces of the whole With different feelings to evoke Giving distinction to the role Different players-different strokes But let me tell you 'bout... CHORUS Some people walk Some people race Some people vary in their pace But God can use what you can give Within the mystery of His ways Don't underestimate... Kimu nkimaanyi Buli muntu alina ensiigo Omutima gwo gukulung 'aamye Buli muntu alina ensiigo © 1990 O'Ryan Music, Inc. (ASCAP)/ Emily Boothe, Inc. (BMI) Michael W. Smith;Wayne Kirkpatrick; May we each faithfully sow the seeds God has given us! Mary |

I really like this song: Loving God, Loving Each Other lyrics Artist - Gaither Vocal Band Album - Back Home In Indiana Lyrics - Loving God, Loving Each Other Loving God, loving each other, Making music with my friends; Loving God, loving each other, And the music never ends. They pushed back from the table To listen to His words, His secret plan before He had to go. It's not complicated; Don't need a lot of rules, This is all you'll need to know. Loving God, loving each other, Making music with my friends; Loving God, loving each other, And the music never ends. We tend to make it harder, Build steeples out of stone, Fill with explanations of The Way, But if we'd stop and listen And break a little bread, We would hear the Master say... Loving God, loving each other, Making music with my friends; Loving God, loving each other, And the music never ends.

Things We Leave Behind by Michael Card album: Poiema (1994) There sits Simon, so foolishly wise proudly he's tending his nets Then Jesus calls, and the boats drift away all that he owns he forgets More than the nets he abandoned that day, he found that his pride was soon drifting away It's hard to imagine the freedom we find from the things we leave behind Matthew was mindful of taking the tax, pressing the people to pay Hearing the call, he responded in faith followed the Light and the Way Leaving the people so puzzled he found, the greed in his heart was no longer around and it's hard to imagine the freedom we find from the things we leave behind Every heart needs to be set free, from posessions that hold it so tight 'Cause freedom's not found in the things that we own, It's the power to do what is right Jesus, our only posession, giving becomes our delight We can't imagine the freedom we find from the things we leave behind We show a love for the world in our lives by worshipping goods we posess Jesus has laid all our treasures aside "love God above all the rest" 'Cause when we say 'no' to the things of the world we open our hearts to the love of the Lord and its hard to imagine the freedom we find from the things we leave behind Oh, and it's hard to imagine the freedom we find from the things we leave behind
