How funny! Actually, now that I think of it, meeting someone on this forum is probably a much safer "bet" than meeting on most other cyberspace venues! I know that I'm grateful to God for the insight and spiritual sensitivity and perception you all share with me here. |

I kinda like that idea of a former adventist dating service. Someone who has had the courage to press forward and become a "former" who knows Jesus would be awesome dating material I would think. For those of us married, we know how stressful it is when you are at different places in understanding Christianity vs Adventism. My dh is starting to give more signs of discontent with Adventism. That's a real answer to my prayers... Colleen, you always needed another job, right? < > Praise God... |

O.K., I'm still married. However, I haven't seen or heard from my husband in nearly a year. So, I guess I can't technacially date. However, I can party down. One of my favorite Bibical passages is Prov. 31:6-7, which says, "Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; let them drink and forget their poverty, and remember their misery no more". When I read this passage I figure God wantsİme to party harty so I do. Let's roll! BTW, It's totally fun to run this passage by the SDA's. It gets to a discussion like this, me: "So, do you or don't you believe ALL the Bible is of the hand of God?" The SDA, "Yes, of course all the Bible is of the hand of God", and then they tell me why drinking is wrong and wine doesn't mean wine and strong drink is wrong. Me, "So, if God says I can party then what's your problem with it?" The SDA, "God doesn't say you can party. You gave the Bible that interpertation". Me, "Of course I gave it that interpertation. What da you think, that God wants me to me miserable? It says 'so they remember their misery no more". We eventually get board with each other and I go home and drink a Long Island Tea and they have an herb tea. |

Hey, matchmakers (and owners of dating services) get paid nicely!! (It might be tricky to convince the tax board we're running a ministry...!) And now that I think of it, you all would make great characters in a book...(just kidding!) I do love you all! Colleen |

B has some SDA friends who run an on-line "Christian" dating service. Now neither of them has full-time jobs, they just do a little maintenance on the servers and collect the money.

Hey Colleen, This is not even tongue-in-cheek. I think that somebody SHOULD run a "Former SDA" dating service. Sometimes I think that only a "former" could possibly understand me. If I had the time or computer skills, I might try to start one up. But, I'm sadly lacking in those skills, sigh.......... |

O.K., I'll be serious now. I do wholeheartedly agree that ex-SDA's are truly the only ones who truly understand other ex-SDA's, or folks who were raised in the mindset of SDA. I say this from personal experience. I will share this story. At the Lutheran church where I reguraly attend is a very nice man. I would guess him to be several decades older than myself. He was raised what I refer to as in a super-duper-SDA family. Had to endour SDA schools from 1st through h.s. This would be in 40's to early 50's. He always hated his upbringing, not getting to play sports, never getting to go to the movies, you know, clean cut things that most people in our society consider normal but SDA's, at least back then made a big deal about the evilness of them. So, the very week he graduated from high school he joined the military. There is such a rift in his family that he has very little contact with his kin to this day. He'd more or less given up on God but then around 40 years ago fell in love with a lovely Lutheran lady who had patience with him and patience with God and now he is a longtime founding father of the local Lutheran church. It's truly an awsome story he has. Now to more recent concerns-every so often the SDA church gets mentioned in a Lutheran setting, like at a sicial or at a Bible study, whatever. Most those people honestly think of the SDA church as regular Protastant Christians only with a few quirks such as not eating pork or having their worship on Saturdays. Me and this one man sometimes feel a need to set the people stright on the cultic doctrines and behaviors of the SDA. The Lutherans are truly astonished after we tell them what we tell them. And, at that church only him and me have a kind-of comaradarie between us that we can't have with anyone else. I asked his wife recently if he shares much about his SDA teachings and upbringing. She said he trys to ocassionaly but it doesn't make sense to her so it's better if he and me talk about that together. So, yes, I agree that former SDA's are only truly the ones that can really understand other former SDA's, and this includes those never actually SDA but very close to SDA's, you know, the in-laws, etc. |

Boy, this has been quite a thread. Yes, only former SDA's really understand the underhanded subtlety of the SDA church. I and another friend Stephen Korsman, who is Catholic, but knows SDA's well, have a theory that Bacchiocchi is a Catholic Plant. He after all got the GC to change the story that EGW said that the Pope or Constantine "Changed the Sabbath". And look at this: "I am sure you've heard of Samuele Bacchiocchi, and his thesis, From Sabbath to Sunday, which he wrote at the Gregorian University in Rome. I've been trying to gather information for some time, and 18 months ago I wrote to the Gregorian to find out if his claims regarding his thesis are true. I recently got the answer - he got his PhD there, but he did not graduate cum laude, he received no medals or awards, he did not get an Imprimatur or "Vatican approval," and his thesis was not published in full - only a chapter was published, the minimum requirement for a degree there. However, Bacchiocchi has since sent me scanned copies of documents that support his claims. I am planning to write to the US Catholic bishops, some other bishops, our bishops here, (in South Africa) various Jesuit seminaries, and major apologists like Karl Keating, and supply them with the documentation I have, and hopefully persuade them to get Gregorian University to investigate fully, and then make a formal statement to the Catholic press, so that people can know that Bacchiocchi's thesis is not really an amazing cum laude text with contents approved by the Vatican, proving, from the source, that Catholicism corrupted the Sabbath."I think a proper investigation is needed before something like this can truly go public, because if Bacchiocchi is right, it would be unfair to tarnish his reputation. Stephen wants me to use my Russian Orthodox contacts to also get the truth out of the Vatican. Anyway, this was just another example to you of the SDA's underhandedness. I'm NOT Catholic, but if we can expose another SDA fraud, then our case against their "Truth" is stronger. Love you all in Jesus. Loren
