I want to let those of you who receive Proclamation know that there is an editorial gaffe in Dennis Fischer's excellent article, Should Christians Practice Tithing. On page 6, the following sentence was added in the editing process: "The Levites not only did not tithe, but Israel's tithes supported the Levites." The first part of this statement is incorrect. Following is Dennis's further explanation of this issue of the priests' and Levites' fiscal status in Israel: "Although the Levites were required to give a tithe of the tithes received from the people to the priests, the priests themselves were not required to tithe anything. Only a relatively small percentage of the Levites served as priests in the temple. Actually, Israel's tithes never completely supported the Levites in their 48 cities. At least four square miles of land belonged to each Levitical city. Therefore, the cumulative amount of Levitical land was very near the square mileage assigned to the tribes of Benjamin and Zebulun. "Since some of the cities that the Levites inherited were the most prosperous in the nation, their combined property value would almost equal that of the lesser Israelite tribes. These facts ought to put to rest the belief of some church leaders who imagine that the Levites lived solely off the tithe of the other tribes. In no way was this true. The Levites had to work for their living as anyone else. Only when Levites attended the service of the Tabernacle (whether on a full-time or part time basis) was the tithe expected to support them. (Deut. 18:6-8)." I apologize to the readers and especially to Dennis Fischer for this error, and I thank him for sending the correction. We will also print it in the next issue of Proclamation. FYI, Proclamation has a new policy effective immediately: no edited manuscript will go to print without the approval of the author. Colleen | ||

How can I get my copy of Proclamation? I ordered some books over a month ago, I asked about getting the subscription of Proclamation and was told I would automatically recieve it but haven't yet. I was really looking forward to reading it. Sabra,I hope you do post the study on the tabernacle. I've been without internet for a few days and have missed you all. Jeannette | ||

Freeatlast, What would happen if you wrote to the Jan Marcussen newsletter and asked them to take your name off their mailing list? I forward all the spiritual writings I get from Rob Chaffart, Pastor Mark Martin to my SDA friends and relatives. I do not say who they are from. I just say I like to share spiritual daily writings with them. One of my SDA friends, here in Las Vegas, told me they take up to much room on her computer and said she would subscribe directly. Whether she does or not is something I cannot control. Diana | ||
