Dear friends, I will be preaching for the first time to my new church family (Cornerstone West LA) this Sunday. I am excited and humbled by this opportunity! The kicker is that the particular group I will be addressing is Spanish-speaking, and I will have a translator with me. Please pray that I faithfully teach the Word of God and glorify the Lord Jesus in whatever I say. My text will be Philippians 1:19-26. Since I am a former SDA, I am almost tempted to stress a point about being with the Lord after dying ("my desire is to depart and be with the Lord, for that is far better"). Thank you for your support to me during this difficult year of transition. Kaspars |

Kaspars! This is wonderful! I will pray...and God will help you know what to stress. That passage is wonderful for ANYONE...not just former Adventists! Colleen |

It went well! It was definitely hard to get the pacing that preaching through translation requires, and some of the dynamics that I had hoped to convey were lost. Overall, I think I can definitely understand those pastors who say words in a sermon will always to some degree fail to convey the greatness of our God. But I could tell that people were listening intently, and the pastor who translated for me affirmed my message and was very pleased. My parents seemed to like it - at least my Dad did. He also noted that he didn't seem to disagree with anything I said, doctrinally (I didn't dwell on soul sleep), in contrast to our usual disagreements. I'm not sure if I should take that as compliment! Kaspars |
