As you all know, Adventists are taking the 10C's very serious. The Second Commandment: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. How do Adventists handle this? Cause when I was at an Adventist Church a couple of weeks ago, there were also images of Jesus. | ||

They don't seem to count them as graven images unless they are actively and literally bowing down to them but they are quick to point out that if you don't pay your tithe and donate money to the church, you are making an idol of your possessions. | ||

Indeed. In addition, they fail to realize that they have literally created an idol of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is to Adventists what the golden calves were to apostate Israel. In the Canaanite religions of that time, the calves weren't specifically deities, but they represented the power, authority, and superiority of their deities. Usually the local gods were carved riding on the backs of golden calves. Israel never carved a "god" on their golden calves which Jeroboam introduced in the northern kingdom—because their God was invisible. So the Israelites had their golden calves but without a representative of God on them. The calves carried their idea of God and represented his authority and power. The Sabbath is that golden calf to the Adventists. The Sabbath carries the Adventist god; if you have God without the Sabbath, the Adventist will say you have false religion and apostate worship. Coleen, I agree with you completely! When I count up the ways that the sabbath is placed above all else it makes me feel ill. I also feel that it is the replacement for Jesus. With comments like "The Sabbath is such a blessing" and "I don't know what I would do without the Sabbath", I can't help but wonder how much better it would be to place Jesus in where the word Sabbath sits. | ||

Freeatlast, that is so true. It also reminds me of what Tim Martin says of the "Adventist Movements". Tim is with the Centers for Apologetics Research (CFAR) and spoke at the 2014 FAF conference. He explained that the Millerite movement resulted in multiple groups that are rightly labeled "Adventists": Jehovah's witnesses are the largest of the Sunday-observing group, and Seventh-day Adventists are the largest of the Saturday-observing group. (And even today there are a great many smaller groups in both of these camps that can rightly be called "Adventists".) Martin pointed out that the Adventist groups all have essentially the same gospel: "Jesus is coming; pack your bags!" As you said, Freeatlast, the name of our particular former group says it all: Seventh-day Adventists. They idolize the Sabbath, and the message they preach is, "Jesus is coming; you'd better be ready..." I agree, the Sabbath to Adventists is like the Virgin Mary is to Catholics. While they claim not to technically worship it(her), they revere it as an essential saving doctrine. As usual, Adventists live on the cutting edge of complicated spin and the parsing of words to justify their beliefs and actions. Yeah, let us Remember who "changed" the Catholic "doctrine" of "Mary"~ It was not until hundreds of years later that a "pope" declared that "Mary" had bodily ascended into heaven! and was co-reigning with CHRIST! So...'egw' had a 'vision" from God that the 'sabbath' was mandatory, to be "kept"~ Thus, making "It" a "saving doctrine"~!  ~mj~ | ||

Exactly. As I just posted on another thread, I believe Adventists are programmed to accept the mark of the beast when it is introduced, whatever it is. Because they have been trained to believe "Sunday worship" = "the mark", they will fail to recognize the real spiritual compromise when they see it. Believing a holy day is part of one's fitness for salvation eclipses the Lord Jesus and the mandate to place our faith in Him only. Colleen | ||

Colleen, So true. Sda's will march right along with the NWO, or whatever it may be, because it won't be a Sunday Law, so it will be okay. It's a very scary position to be in, I think. I hope that somehow the HS can open their eyes. Their hearts may be so hardened to the HS's promptings, that they will continue to ignore it. |
