I wonder how SDA's view the definition of spirit and therefore spirituality by Sam Harris, an atheist, in his attempt to rewrite the atheist's quest for meaning without "religion/faith"- his answer is to use the "pneuma" definition meaning breath. Adventists and Atheists.... hmmmm http://www.christianpost.com/news/waking-up-is-atheist-sam-harris-lying-to-sell-books-121184/ |

I know when I was an Adventist, I thought "pneuma" meant "breath" too. I didn't know that the Greek that the New Testament was translated from ALSO uses "pneuma" for the Holy Spirit too! If Ellen White hadn't said that the Holy Spirit is a Person, I would have thought that the Holy Spirit was Breath too. The Bible always has verses that contradict the cults. Just like [for Jehovah's Witnesses] John 12:41 says that Isaiah saw Jesus' glory and then when you turn to Isaiah 6, you see that Jesus and Jehovah are One and the SAME! For Adventists, one of those verses is 1st Corinthians 2:11 "For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." So according to Adventist theology, since the word "spirit" is "pneuma," a person's breath knows their thoughts! |
